I have been on accutane for 5 days now, and its getting a little worse? How long does is take to the flare up to stop? I have been suffering from acne for so many years, i'm 18 and going to college soon so i'm really excited to see improvements. My only side effects for now are really chaped lips. But i'm a little down with these flare ups :(

You obviously don't understand how depressing acne is by it's self. I'm currently on accutane and have not been depressed once, and although depression/suicidal thoughts happen they're very rare. My brother who went on accutane nearly committed suicide but when on accutane you;re meant to keep in very close contact with your dermatologist, and my brother told her about the depression. He was given anti-depressants and after he finished accutane he was no longer depressed. All i'm saying is that every drug has side affects and accutane is a SERIOUS drug, everyone is affected differently.

Exactly! I'm i in my mid twenties, married, and a mother, but I know most people who take accutane are in high school. My dermatologist and I actually discussed the fact thatsome of the depression reported is due to the fact that being a teenager in high school with acne is depressing in itself!

I just had my 30 day follow up apt. with my derm for accutane. I am 115 lbs. 5'6" on 40mg Claravis/day. For the first week, I did not notice any side effects, no breakout, dryness, etc.
Around the 2nd week, the purging and dryness started. I was hoping I would be one of the lucky ones who didn't get the initial breakout since I have only mild acne, but that isn't the case. I am consistently getting 2-3 large cysts on my chin, and when they finally go away, the next batch comes...it seems never ending! My derm said the initial breakout usually lasts 1-2 months, so I figure that the worst case scenario is I am half way through the worst part! After reading on here, I have more optimism about accutane and the initial breakout.
On a better note, my skin doesn't get oily and my makeup stays on all day as if I just put it on. My hair doesn't get oily nearly as fast as it used to, either. The scarring on my forehead is becoming less noticeable. I can definitely tell its working. One thing you may notice if you have blackheads is that they will surface. I noticed this after the 1st week, and they still seem to be coming out. I use a washcloth every morning to scrub the flakiness and exfoliate.
If anyone has any words of advice or things they used/tried to help them with the initial breakout, it would be much appreciated! For now, I guess I will stick to ice and praying it stops!
Haha yessss I'm loving my makeup staying on all day! I woke up with a giant cyst on my forhead today. It's not even red, it just looks like I'm getting ready to sprout a horn! I added a little baking soda to my creamy facewash and used it to gently exfoliate and that has helped my blackheads and dry patches.

I've tried both original brand and generic accutane. I prefer generic accutane - There is no difference in effectiveness as far as I can tell between the brand and generic versions. The real difference is price, no comparison. And this suppliers seem honest and reliable. On the site http://z-isotretinoin.info I've just placed my 3rd order.

Medsdirectindustries . com has expanded their online store for internet customers, when they previously only filled medical clinic scripts. MDI has a great product and price list to check out on their website!

I've been on claravis for about a month now which is one of the generics for accutane I believe. My acne has gotten consistantly worse and my whole back is covered in what I would like to call small tumors.. although I know they are cysts :( The only thing worse than acne ridden skin is acne ridden AND dry skin. Before I started the accutane my face wasnt so bad but my back has always been worth keeping covered at all times. I am very depressed since starting accutane and I really can't say if its the side effect of accutane or if it's just the fact that my acne got worse but everytime I look in the mirror I can't help but wanna cry. I just keep telling myself its temporary and will go away eventually. Really hoping it doesnt go away and then flare up again cuz I don't know how I'm gonna handle it. But acne has been a losing battle since I was 14 and now at 20 after seeing a dermatoligist for 6 years, seems like it's only got worse. Eh... this is my last resort.

So if u don't mind me asking, what is your diet like? What do u eat? I have heard that some acne is related to what u eat...like dairy products. You may be 'allergic' and it affects your skin. LMK PEACE and LOVE

Ive been on ro accutane now for one week , about 4 days into treatment i got MUCH worse acne. I started to get cystic acne on my forhead and ALOT more spots around my face..my acne has never been this bad and according to my dermatoligist i have 'consitent acne' which means i dont get it bad but it is always there, its mild. But now its just horrible! Is this normal , will it be like this for moths before i see any improvment?!

Im 14 years old , ive been on roaccutane for 8 days now , by day 4/5 i got BIG cystic red acne all over my forhead...i also got very peely dry skin and a large amount of red spots on my nose , cheeks ,chin and even neck! I have NEVER been so bad in my life. I went to the derm and he said i had consistent acne , he said i hadnt the worst acne but it was just that it was always there , never clear. Ive tried everything and this is my last resort. Excopt im worried that it wil get even more worse and i might not even se an improvement for a few months? Ive never had cystic acne before and i dont no why im only getting it while on this?!Is it normal , will it clear up !also not sure if this is for everyone but i was told to eat it during or straight after your dinner..what if you forget ! Can you take it later with a meal?

Heyy All I have started a course of accutane 20mg a day. I have noticed side efects such as dry lips n skin, my skin feels wonderful. For dry lips i recommend using vaseline or petroleum jelly because by the nex day the flaky skin dissapears. hope that helps and good luck to u all.

From the age of 12 I've suffered from acne flare-ups. I still remember my first pimple was an exciting event as I felt it made me a real teenager, but the novelty soooon wore off as more and more pimples came to the party. In desperation at age 22 I found a dr who was willing to put me onto Accutane, also quite severe breakouts at first but then improvement in leaps and bounds. I went off after the prescribed 3 months and my clear skin became once again a pizza pie. I hate having to wear foundation to conceal how bad my skin looks, but also I'm not brave enough to walk around with a naked face. Have started my second course of Accutane and the initial flare-up seems to have calmed down. I reckon that it doesn't matter how bad the superficial side effects are, it's worth it to have a clear skin so that I can walk in the light with confidence and not try to hide my face in the dark. Good luck fellow acne suffers, hopefully soon we'll all be looking back, grateful that the acne nightmare is over for good!!!

I've been on Roacutanne 40mg now for 2 months & damn my skin is an absolute war zone. I didnt have this war on my face to start with, it's so depressing. Everyone keeps telling me to "stick it out because it's worth it" yet it's so hard to believe & be optimistic about when you yourself are going through it. I really just want these damn creatures growing on my face to LEAVE & die :) Hmmm on a positive note - no serious side effects at all, just the "usual" dry eyes & lips. Bless the souls of whoever invented Carmex! People if you're lips are dry, use Carmex! It really works wonders.

Ive been taking accutane for a month now going on to my second month and boy has things gotten worse.Ive always suferred from oily skin with constant moderate acne since being on a 20mg a day dose of Accutane my acne has gotten severe with whiteheads as big as horns.People constantly come up to me and ask "wats wrong with ur face?" not the response i was hoping for. The only positive is i no longer have oily skin but im giving it more time to kick in. I am participating in a friend's wedding so im crossing my fingers that ill be acne free by then.

To Pinkberry, I know exactly what you mean. It is easy to say don't stress but you really just have to push through it and stick it out. I'm currently in my 3rd month and had clusters of white massive and I mean HUGE! pimples and blind pimples all over my cheeks throughout the 2nd month and they have disappeared, literally out of nowhere. I still have a few on my forehead but it's nothing some good concealer can't fix. Just stick it out. Find yourself some good oil free foundation and concealer and cover up as best as you can while you have to. Don't turn back. It may take you longer than 3 months to clear up because it all depends on how much clogging was underneath you're skin you probably didn't know about before you started Roaccutane. Once it's all out that's when you will see a difference. Keep yourself moisturised, drink water and just try to take everyday as it comes :)
