Just wondering how many people have had their acne get worse before getting better on Accutane? I've only been on it for 11 days... the only side effects I've experienced are extremely dry lips which started after just a few days of use & sensitivity to the sun... Anyone care to comment? Thanks! Take care...

Mine actually never got worse. And I experienced those exact same side-effects. And also, sunscreen is the key ;) While I was on Accutane, I went out in the sun for about seven hours without any sunscreen on, and I got gigantic blisters all over my face. For my freshman school picture, I still had a big cut from where I got sunburnt. So, good luck to you!

Kelly... Care to share how long you were on Accutane before you started to get the results you were hoping for? My dermatologist said in about 3 mos. I should start to see significant improvement... I've been on Accutane for 5 1/2 weeks... Just had my dosage raised from 40mg to 60mg a day... Still breaking out... Seem to be healing faster when I do though.

My acne did get much worse around the 2 month. Constant breakout, then what seems to be a clearup and you guessed it breakout again. I heard around the end of the third month most see a consistent clearing

Please do not take this medication! Someone I know just commited suicide due to the side effects of this medication. He had a pyschotic break and jumped infront of a truck!! He was only 18. Not everyone may have these side effects but why take the chance!

I have been on accutane for 3 months and a week. Acne is still bad. My derm says it will be better within the next month. (that's also what she said last month.)Side effects aren't too bad.

I've been on it for about a month and a half. Mine got really worse as soon as i started it for till about two weeks time. But after it died down. It hasn't stopped completely yet, obviously. I still get one or two once in a while.
Use some good oil free moisturizer for your face for dryness. I didn't have trouble with sun though.

Hello! I'm using isotretinoin in cream but would like to take accutane because my acne is just getting worse ....black heads, white heads, cysts the lot!!! Do you think accutane is worse for your body than antibiotics ...? I like to hear other people's opinions....

Im going to start taking accutane within the next week, and according to many, my dermatoligist is one of the best. I understand the side effects, and for those of you who are worried about the severe side effects, i don't think that depression is anything to worry about when taking this. Perhaps I am wrong, but the percentage rates are small, and even those are not fact. Many of these side effects have no corrilation to the actual medicine, but by mere chance happened during the process of intake. I have complete faith in my doctor, and from a 15 year old with really painful back acne, I would say this medicine is more of a positive then a negative, even in the worst cases.

Spike... Hang in there... mine got worse before better... I've been on it for almost 8 weeks, & things are starting to improve... Everyone is different... Some people get worse before better & some do not... My dermatologist said that it's pretty normal & around 3 months, you should start seeing a significant improvement... I know that 3 months seems like an eternity... Understand how you feel... You are not alone...:) Take care...

Ive been on medication for almost 3 mos now. Though my face hasnt cleared up yet (constantly, 2 or 3 new pimples). I feel that it is better now. I have an oil free face and didnt have to worry of shiny and yucky texture. I am still optimistic though that my pimple will totally go away in time.

As for the suicidal tendency, yes it is true that accutane has a psychological impact. If you notice some users have mood swing and irregular sleeping habits. Impact varies, this is where how your talent in coping and being flexible comes in.

I've experienced accutane many years ago and now I'm on my second term about 6 years later. When I first took it, it got a little worse before it got better, but around the 2nd and 3rd month I completely cleared up from head to toe. It was an amazing transformation.

It is very common for it to get worse before it gets better. In fact, if it gets worse.. try and be optimistic because that does mean the drug is kicking into your system. I'm sure it's just your body pushing up all the dirt and oil deep in your pores to clense your system.

I so hope you're right. I'm taking Accutane, and I've been on it for just over a month, now. It's true that you see improvement only later on. As in my case,I have moderate to severe inflammatory acne. But since taking it for the first few weeks my acne got worse and I had some cysts and papules growing on sides of my cheeks and forhead. The embarrasing part about Acne is that it's usually on one's face. i wouldn't really care if i had it on my back. But it's better not to have it at all. Actually, now that i've mentioned my back, i used to have quite a lot of break outs there, but since Accutane, it's all gone. So i'm happy about that. I'm just hoping my face gets better. But i'm only on my 1st month. So hopefully we'll all get skin that's more clear once we're done with the treatment.

i am have been on accutane for almost 2 months. my skin not oily anymore and my forehead has cleared up completely. i have started to break out around my chin area and they are painful cysts. i was nervous going on accutane at first but seen this improvement in just 1 month has made more positive towards the medication. dry lips is the only side effect i have so far. after years of struggling with my skin i am so ecstatic to see these results i feel like a new me. my only question is why was i not put on this medication along time ago. that is why i went to a new dermatologist to seek new advice. hopefully i can now enjoy my thirties pimple free and with more self confidence. accutane is a good med!!!

I just started Accutane a week ago, I saw a sever to moderate flare up almost immediatly within the first two days of treatment but over the past five days it has seemed to have gone away. The acne is still there but it is not red and noticabel. Some cysts have formed but even after one week my skin looks better than when I started the med. Maybe I've just been haveing good days or maybe this stuff really does work and fast. I do though have severly dry lips and my face is peeling all over, I am pleased with the results so far if you can call them that so early into the treatment.
