I Luv Luv Luv this new place. It's so warm and inviting. Like the laptop stations and the new menu is yummy. Organic free range coffee too. I was told they're gonna add more sidewalk seating this summer!!!! So cosmopolitan. It's a wonderful addition to our growing downtown community. And how cool is this ? With U.M. at Lambuth we now have the U.M. Cafe ???? Ingenious.

Oh but they won't have the full menu ready until next month. This is a fresh local start up business, not a cookie cutter franchise. It takes time to develop a full menu.

Where did my comment go? I guess they can't handle the truth.

I am a regular customer of green frog and I won't be back to ugly mug until they get some new employees or a manager that cares how customers are to be treated. I don't need for my barista to have swag, just get my order right!

Piss poor customer service and bad management. It's a dead business walking.

I work downtown and used to frequent Green Frog because it was convenient, but their coffee wasn't especially good. Ugly Mug has a full-time roaster on staff, and from what I've had so far they know what they're doing.

Nearly all the employees I've seen are former Green Frog employees, too, so it's nice to know a bunch of people didn't lose their jobs when things changed.

I hope the place does well, it's the only decent coffee shop in town aside from the one at Union.

Really? Is there a coffee roaster on staff in Jackson at the local-start-up-not-a-chain-cof fee shop? They fresh roast the coffee locally?

Decent cup of Red Eye over there. They didn't seem unfriendly to me. Maybe they were just too busy to speak with you?? I'll go back.

Funny, no one commented on them being unfriendly or upset for not speaking to them. You just made that up to put down any critics.

But they did say their order wasn't right, the menu was bad, and the management was poor. And this isn't the only place where those things are being said. Those are legitimate observations that a good business owner would take to heart and work on, instead of being defensive and shooting down the few customers they had.

And as for them being too busy? HAR ! Doing what? Drumming up facebook likes? How much is the owner paying now for each facebook like?

What's funny? I read comments before that said as much. Are you some kind of Junior Detective or something? I'll give you an example of what I meant: I ordered my cup. Another party orders right after me. I say "thanks" to the people who made my coffee, but they don't speak back because they're working on the next order. This, while offensive or potentially off-putting for others, isn't a big deal to me because I came in for coffee, not a lasting relationship.

Jump to absurd, overly-imagined conclusions much?

Ugly mug is franchise. Did research on them for a college paper. Made my third visit this week. Trying to give them a chance. Very cold and unfriendly environment. I loved the couches and fireplaces. But mostly loved seeing familiar faces sitting at the tables. Those faces are gone so apparently they aren't happy either. Oh and I miss soup -- need my veggies.

Hey guys....I am one of the owners...and I really appreciate all the honest feedback...first of all we are not a franchise...and never wanted to be...we are 2 local guys that really care about this community, and the people in it....that is why feedback is important...when we took over...we rushed to get open because this was the only source of morning coffee for people downtown...so we opened with a lot of limited items....we have been adding things daily to get better...and have even tried to blend the old with the new by adding Green Frog ice creams back to the menu...we went with Ugly Mug coffee for Memphis because we believed in the organic process for coffee...but honestly....we are evaluating the flavor change....and are going to be making some changes....as far as the staff goes...I am glad that we kept every single employee from the Green Frog...we are very lucky...and I mean that....because there are a lot of people that do have good things to say about them...and for the record some of our staff get up at 430am to be here to make coffee...and sometimes it may seem unfriendly, but we are all still waking up at that time...so just give them another chance...because they all care about the success of this place for downtown Jackson...and like one person commented...I hope we won't be a dead business walking....because we respond to all feedback and evolve....I think everyone deserves a second chance....so watch for our coffee changes in the next few weeks, and our menu is filling out with many varieties of options....thanks!!
