I'm a big fan of Restaurant Week. This year, from Oct 6-12, some two dozen local restaurants offered special three-course dinners each evening for $25. And some places "" such as The Point Chophouse, where I dined last week "" are extending their prix fixe meal deals an additional week.

Some friends and I ate at the The Point a few months back.
While the food was good enough, the cocktail waitress gave a whole new meaning to "dumb blonde." A couple of the highlights: my friend ordered Scotch and she had no idea what he was talking about. He had to go to the bartender and give his order directly to him. My first glass of wine got spilled. When she arrived back at our table my husband ordered a round of drinks and she said to me "Do you want another glass?" Yes. So she brought everybody at our table a new drink and she gave me an empty glass.

Sounds as if you were on "Candid Camera."

This is an obvious attempt to drum up business for the place. We have frequented The Portola House for the last 30+ years before Paul sold it. Never a problem. Good honest food and good service for myself and our guests. We tried it twice since, and had to cross it off our list. They were attempting to offer breakfast and we bit. The omelet tasted strongly of cinnamon when it finally arrived,(must have mistaken the french toast mix) and the potatoes were old,(last week's baked most likely) and poor service. We later tried dinner and should have been suspicious when we were the only couple eating at 6:00 pm on a Thursday. They acted like they weren't really expecting anyone, and dinner took forever to arrive. It wasn't very good. The bar, however, was doing great! The crowd seemed to be enjoying themselves. This is what will keep this place alive, not the food.

I had an odd experience in there the only time I
have been in there. Once about a year ago I stopped
in, after I found out the Portola House no longer existed.
I went in and ordered a sandwich I think with fries.
I was okay with it. There was a nice looking young girl
serving. It was in the afternoon around 2 I think.
Pretty quiet. I was almost finished eating and went to the restroom. I came out and the table I was at had been cleared! I hadn't paid for anything yet, and I had left my sunglasses on the table, as sort of a message that I would be back shortly (most servers with brains know people sometimes have to use the facilites before leaving, and in so doing leave something on a the table as sort of a message to that affect). Well I paid and got my glasses back from the bartender. I didn't see the server again (maybe her shift was over, it was very odd), I felt unwelcome and haven't gone back since.

Ann Parker is completely clueless when it comes to reviewing restaurants. She should be embarrassed to write about a restaurant without visiting 2 or 3 times and evaluating how well it does what it does. She loves to wax poetic about decor and how friendly the host is. We deserve better than a PR promotion. From what others have said, none of us should be wasting our money and time here.

Apparently the authorities agree with you because they gave them an "Unapproved Food Source, Contaminated or Adulterated Food" mark on the county health report, which (thank goodness) is fairly rare:
