Your kidding, right. 10c a bottle would almost double the cost of a case of water.
Another nice liberal tax on something they don't like.... "Nor should we encourage an industry that sells drinking water in parts of the world were public water supplies are not potable; that is, do we want people in Africa, say, to have to buy water from Coke (Dasani), Pepsi (Aquafina) or Nestle (Poland Springs, Perrier, Pellegrino and Deer Park)?" Let them eat cake, or (not) drink water I guess |

idea. Can't see why it is just carbonated drinks? A cookie for the first person to guess who gets to keep the nickle on an un-returned bottle?

The problem is that we consumers pay this tremedous price increase not only for the bottle deposit, but for the absorbent handling fees also written in to these bills. This is further taxation on earnings that we pay Federal tax on already, State Tax already, SStax that we may never see, Medicare tax, on and on. When will it ever stop!

Why? Will you start sending them water? The state should run the redemption centers instead of the retailers. |

In tough economic times the last thing many Americans want to do is spend more money for the same product they have been buying all along. This increased bottle bill with have two positive impacts; the expansion of the green revolution, which sometimes needs to be put on the back burner, and increased profit for redemption centers.
The idea that this will help people more, like "bottle bill" , is not going to happen. People will see they will be paying $1.20 for a 12-pack of soda or beer and $3.00 for a 30-pack and probably be more compelled to redeem them their selves. Which means less bottles for bottle bill. And the article even acknowledged the state will not profit for the same reason "bottle bill" wont. Finally it can be assumed MA will lose money from this new bill! if MA offers more money on a wider variety of bottles, people from outside the state, such as New Hampshire who has no deposit charge, will bring loads of bottles down to MA redemption sites. So MA will be paying out ten cents per bottle, for which deposit was never collected in the first place. |
