First thing I thought of when I read this question....it's like asking if there are too many stars in the night sky!

I'm white - I lived in Detroit for most of my life; met some fine, outstanding people of color
as well as some scumbags of non-color....it's NOT the color: it's the life style.

Blacks make up 90% or more of the city's population, so to honestly answer this question one could easily say yes.
Balance is the key to any successful society.
The real question is WHY are there so many blacks in Detroit, not IF there are too many.

What happened to cause this segregation, once we honestly answer this question, only then can we talk about correcting the issues causing the segregation.
Until then it will be an imbalance in residence and in cultural understanding.

Why are there more whites in Orion twp. or more to many whites in Livonia and Canton? What is to many? Does Howell have to many white people, what about Brighton and Fenton.

Does Flint and Inkster have to many Black people? Only a manipulating, bigget, instigating racist could come up with these questions.

Interesting thing about crime that Mr. Stix writes on is that he says "The single greatest indicator of an area’s crime rate is not poverty or education, but race and ethnicity. Even when one controls for income, the black crime rate is much higher than the white rate."

Again I find this another reason to work together, but obviously not until some the the above mentioned issues are taken care of.
I for one don't want to expose any of my family or friends to the current lifestyle that exists in Detroit.
Its a risk I am not willing to take, therefore it will be up to the blacks living in Detroit to turn things around in order to make things more appealing for other cultures to come in.

The responsibility of fixing race relations obviously falls squarely on the blacks residing within the city limits.
