Just as a little bit of back story: I'm 18 and currently a pre-med neuroscience major at the University of Kentucky. I also have training in clerical work and business management, including 10-Key, Microsoft training, and ACT WorkKeys certification. I've lived in the Richmond/Lexington area of KY for my entire life and I've always wanted to go to Colorado for college, especially med school.

After a few set-backs, I'm finally getting the opportunity to move in mid to late July 2014. I have two friends who are 21 and 22 who plan on accompanying me, neither of them are in college but they've been employed since graduating high school. I've been employed off and on over the past year and plan on picking up something part-time at a local Amazon warehouse until it's time to move. I have been receiving financial aid from UK, which helped me qualify for my previous apartment.

Here are my questions:

1. What are some of the best places to look at for quick hires?(We're comfortable with any work environment but prefer clerical, factory, or retail)
2. Should we send potential employers our resumes within a month of when we move or should we go about that earlier?
3. Where are some of the best places to look at for apartments? We're looking for two bedrooms, we prefer at least 1.5 baths but we'll settle for 1, with rent no greater than $800/month including utilities.
4. What are the best social things to do over the weekend for people our age? We're not looking to get trashed/high EVERY night (although we probably won't say no), we're just really friendly people looking for other friendly people to get to know!

Denver has such a very nice imiage for us all, and getting here is a serious quest for a lot of people. BUT....

Denver is in a bowl, and when the pollution is high, the pollution collects in the bowl. All summer long in fact.
Winter time and the houses there use fire places which burn wood. If you know anything about combustiables, you know wood has more water and sheer grit in it than any other fuel and so.. when you breath that stuff, you don't enjoy it.. and in this economic circumstance, that will be all- winter- long.

The real estate folks are making a bundle on all types of housing and business addresses, and they want to keep it going. Ice on the highway is a major threat to sanity at least and so.. they lay methal bromide and salt down on the road, and a lot of .. fine granite that moves into the environment rather nicely. We are at four.five and more thousand feet and when all that mixture that is put on the pavement is kicked up by tires on the highway and so.... you get to breath it and please do trust me.. it blows your sinisus off.

I believe it was bolder country that spent some 1.5 million dollars in welfare for the illegal aliens. NO ONE.. no one knows what that total is, but Denver has become a harbor for the illegal aliens and that changes many cultural aspects of Denver, and many of them are very strange to our culture.

We had an irrationally large storm that hit the Rockies several months ago. I am sure the real estate folks kept a lot if quiet, but the ability to get around in Denver was tough. Getting up to and back from the University up in Bolder was also very difficult.. when it finally became possiable. Getting to and from Longmont, Loveland and Ft. Collins was also very difficult after they got the roads open.
----------
There is more.. this is enough. Denver is a very vulnerable to the problems humans create for an area, and a community. All of Colorado along the front range is very vulnerable, and attempting to solve the unsolvable gordian knots people have created as this area grew. Of it all, the pollution that has been created by humans is serious stuff and of it all, that is the one I would give Denver, and all of the front range at this point, one half a star. Colorado is not at all what it seems to be..

There is a web site well worth looking at as you move ahead.
www.city-states.com .

Organic Chemistry is the anvil a lot of students are broken on, and out of the program with. Know it well before you get close to pre-med.

Colorado's employment picture is getting better, and better than much of the country

Never hurts to be prepared and get those resumes out

Good luck, housing in the Denver area is not cheap...$800.00 a month including utilities just isn't going to happen. Maybe for a Studio/Buffet where utilities are included. To be realistic you will need to plan on about $1,200.00 a month for a comfortable 2 bed 1.5 bath apartment

Denver and the front range has hundreds of clubs and entertainment for people of your generation take a look at a local monthly entertainment magazine like the "Westword"

I would like to suggest Denver Colorado, one of the best places to look for apartments. You have to get renting a home in your budget. Buying/Renting and moving into a new home can be a complex process. Before making an offer on a home, you should obtain the services of a home inspector. Whenever you are ready to move into your new home, the Go King Moving and Storage is a good resource when you’re looking for a mover. For quality moving services in metro Denver, refer them.

First off good luck to you and your friends. Denver is full of the criminal illegal, the women work the welfare system the men work the construction jobs and their kids have destroyed any chance of learning for English speaking children and. union teachers condone this illegal behavior!! Rent for three adults averages about 1100 a month not including power, trash. sewer etc cable prices are totally out of control average about 150 a month .Down town is dangerous for whitey after 10 at night. So no jobs, horrible school system, and a city full of fringe lunatics. I would reconsider the move. Goodluck

For those of us who have never been to Denver, but might go soon, can someone explain the joke? Even if it's not funny?
The only joke IS the water.

Don't listen to coon hunter, I've been in Denver for 13 years and never had a problem downtown after 10, before 10...not a single one. Denver's music scene is top 5 and the people are fantastic with the exception of coon hunter. He's a tool. Last I heard he was doomed to his misery due to lack of education, empathy, and an overwhelming inability to acknowledge his own faults

Be afraid...be very afraid. Denver, city of my birth, is comely and energetic enough but is polemic and frenetic. Not overly hospitable. Endless fractious yuppies texting and driving their beemers well beyond their skills. Legal dope everywhere and gun shows every few weeks. Polemics. My wife and I have been vigorously engineering our departure from this confederacy of dunces for seven years now. Happily we'll be leaving two vacancies open for you come June. Enjoy :-)

( If You move to the north-end of Town, outside the City, like Fed Hgts, and Aurora, and such, the Water Company will give You a key to their own water silo, shipped-in from Wyoming, but you gotta ask, about a dozen times.)

"commander bunny", obviously I'm a lot older than you realize. Call yourself what you will, I'm guessing you're a disaffected white male in your late twenties with a crappy apt in the burbs. Youre simple and angry. Maybe Denver is scary to you after ten because you don't know your way around and you were suppose to be home when the street lights came on

I had a lay-over flight @ DIA, 25 miles north of Denver for less than an hour last year on a business trip.
When I returned to LAX I was missing a kidney.

Explain that one.
