White House fails to meet deadline on detailing proposed defense cuts
Published September 07, 2012
FoxNews.com
The White House announced that it will not meet Friday's deadline to make public what plans it will put into place to deal with the massive defense cuts coming at the end of the year.
The announcement comes shortly after President Obama signed into law the Sequestration Transparency Act that requires him to submit a report to Congress detailing the impact of his 'sequester' on defense and non-defense programs – cuts that were triggered after the so-called Super Committee to come up with a debt deal last year.
White House press secretary Jay Carney said the plans for defense cuts will be submitted to Congress by President Obama late next week. The plans should give insight to which defense bases and cities will be impacted by the defense cuts.
Carney accused Republicans of putting the nation at risk over the defense cuts "because of their insistence on preserving a trillion-dollar tax cut for millionaires and billionaires."
But House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, issued a statement following the announcement accusing the president of pushing a campaign agenda.
"The sequester originated from this White House, yet it refuses to level with the American people about the devastating impact it will have on our country," he said.
"By proposing the sequester, the president put his own election campaign ahead of the interests of the country. He has a responsibility and legal obligation to tell the American people how he plans to implement, or replace theses devastating cuts," Boehner said.
"House Republicans have passed legislation to protect our troops by replacing the sequester with common-sense spending cuts and reforms. If the president and Senate Democratic leaders summon the courage to put forth a concrete plan to replace these cuts there's no reason we can't work together to resolve this issue quickly. But doing nothing is shameful and irresponsible."
Carney said there are a lot of factors involved in preparing the report, which is why it will be released next week.

Why doesn't Obama care about the deficit?

We need a President that understands how to make a budget. That's why I'm voting Romney/Ryan 2012.

That means I scrolled down the list of numerous rightwing topic titles on the front page and chose one at random to point out how frantic the righties are pounding away at their keyboards.

All this time and effort and around the clock activity, copy/pasting every rightwing talking point you can find on Google, yet not a single rightie will tell us what Romney intends to do with Medicaid insurance for the 59% of our children who depend on it to see a doctor and dentist.

You wanna take that one on GOP Guru?

Right, increasing military spending by taking food off poor families plates and bombing Iran.

The ads, available on Romney’s YouTube channel, are tailored to eight swing states. The one running in Virginia, near me, says:“Here in Virginia, we’re not better off under President Obama. His defense cuts threaten over 130,000 jobs—lowering home values, putting families at risk.” Similar ads in other states complain that Obama’s reductions in military spending threaten 20,000 jobs in Colorado, 20,000 in Ohio, and “thousands more” in Florida and North Carolina.
Romney promises to save these jobs by shielding the Pentagon budget. Here’s his pitch in Virginia:“Romney’s plan? Reverse Obama defense cuts. Strengthen our military, and create over 340,000 new jobs for Virginia.” The ad in North Carolina is identical, except that it adds 10,000 jobs to the offer. The ad in Colorado promises 200,000 jobs. The ad in Ohio promises 450,000. The ad in Florida promises 700,000.

Romney wouldn’t just protect the military budget. He would radically increase it. He explicitly vows to set “core defense spending … at a floor of 4 percent of GDP.” This would require more government spending, regardless of need, just because the economy is growing. It’s hard to imagine a more socialist policy. The cost to our country over the next decade has been estimated at up to $2 trillion.

AKA government spending on government jobs.

Bombing Iran? Are you talking about the drone Obama lost there? Or are you confusing Iran with Obama's unauthorized war against Qaddafi in Libya?

I blame high food prices on the Ethanol fuel mandates and subsidies; when you burn grain ethanol it drives up the price of grain, feed and all food. Ethanol gas policy is drive by starvation.

We shouldn't spend defense dollars on pork barrel jobs. We need to make defense spending decisions based on the war our troops are fighting.

It's a bad idea, cutting defense in the middle of a war.

I agree with increasing defense, to defend our country against our enemies. We're at war, we need to plan victory, not cut guns, ammo, food and pay for our military.

The federal government has a Constitutional responsibility to defend our country. It will take more than a decade to win in Afghanistan, we need to plan for the long haul.

Screw them It is NOT our war lets bring our guys home NOW.

U.S. should pull troops out of South Korea. The people of South Korea don't want us there anyway.

Pull out of the middle east completely.Saudi Arabia can build there own army. If they want us to do it we should send them a bill.Same with Japan and Europe.

The United States can not afford to police the whole world for free.

The Taliban sheltered and protected the people who cut the throats of our flight attendants, killed our flight crews and flew our jetliners into our tallest buildings and the Pentagon killing thousands of innocent Americans. It is our war, we'll destroy the Taliban and let the Afghans determine their own destiny.

My 6 children depend on that program and I am a government dependent .
Even though I was not born in the USA, my 6 children were and I receive welfare and Aid to dependent Children .
I got free tuition but stopped going to class < just used the pell grant so I could have a decent car.
Now That I have a decent life and enough to get by , I can proudly raise my children without the threat of hunger or having to work .
I will be voting again for our president Obama.
