I think that it is a little strange how police need to spend so much time targeting marijuana. This drug has little impact on the denver area next to murders, domestic violence, campus attacks, the list goes on and on. How many times have you heard of a bank robbery, a murder, and violent crime being done by someone who was under the influence of marijuanna. Police are here to serve and protect right?
Thay are here to smoke the confiscated pot. I agree with you. Pot smokers attack the fridge, not other people.

Good grief what a huge waste. Thing is, this only exacerbates the problem, which is, obviously what the police want. To paraphrase Sheriff Bill Masters (author of "Drug War Addiction", "every time a drug bust goes down the cost of drugs goes up". This means more value in the black market and the more people are willing to risk in a constant game of risk reward of the criminal element. This, in turn, seriously endangers society. There is no societal benefit to prohibition and it causes a huge amount of harm and waste. I certainly hope all the murders are solved and all the alcoholics are off the road before our cops spend even another dime enforcing lost causes such as the war on some drugs. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Good. Hopefully we can see more busts like this in the future.
No doubt you will unless there is a radical shift in emphasis. Read my other post, this will only increase the dangers associated with prohibition.

Nice and this goes along with those voting on 9news that Denver PD should put marijuana arrests on the bottom of the arrest list.....these are the ones coming across the border and getting shot in the back end, then the Border Patrol Agents are being jailed for shooting at them.
I hope that ONE DAY, this will all stop.
Yeah, seems a little odd the day after the hearings to make marijuana possession the lowest possible police priority in Denver. When this law passes, and it will, in November. If the police arrest people for pot and *any* other infractions in their vicinity are overlooked, including jay walking, or if there are any unsolved crimes the cops could be working on, it will be ILLEGAL for the cops to pursue this stupidity. That is why the bill is so, so very important.

A "year-long" undercover operation? What did that cost? What did that cost in lost opportunity? I wonder how many crimes could have been prevented or solved or little old ladies helped if the cops would have not been wasting even half their time on this nonsense!

And now we gotta pay for these people's room and board in jail, for the courts to be clogged up, for murderer's to get off, to pay for prisons, prison guards. To say nothing of the welfare and indigent medical claims from the dependents on people persecuted. What's worse, what's tragically, tragically worse, is that this has ONLY MADE THE PROBLEM WORSE! The real criminals will come out to play when the price doubles. These are the people your kids will meet in the parks. Who are these 'undercover officers?'? In many cases they are snitches doing undercover work in exchange for being let off a crime in an ever perpetuating spiral of madness.

keeping pot illegal gives the cops something to do .... it keeps the bad cops off the street ... where they could do some real damage...

Lets all go get drunk and run over a family crossing the street instead of smoking a little pot and watch TV with a sandwich.

Anyone who thinks this is a good use of our tax dollars is either an idiot or intellectualy dishonest. What a waste of time, it's pot, less dangerous than alcohol (those who would argue against that show their own ignorance). I don't want my taxes spent on a waste of time like this, we have gangs, murders and many other issues in Denver that are real and dangerous, and should be dealt with before marijuana. I am a white male, in my mis thirties, I don't use pot, but I also know how stupid it is to criminalize it. Denver police should get their priorities straight and do some good in the community, not just bust pot rings, let killers go free, let inmates die in the jail, shoot unarmed citizens etc. Sherrif Whitman should be fired for his inept and abusive reign as police chief. Denver Police are becoming more and more of a joke as time passes, who is going to protect us from them?
Spot on. The only other thing to add is that the vast majority of gangs and murders and other violence is the direct result of the lucrative black market the cops create. Even DARE is such a failure that the continued practice forces any critical thinking person to evaluate "why?". To which the only answer is the cops have a vested interest.

All drugs are dangerous! You've obviously smoked way too much to realize that.
Where there's drugs, there's crime.
At least our current laws make it harder for our kids to get their hands on it.

Am I missing something, or is 20 pounds of cocaine a lot more noteworthy than ANY amount of pot??
Yes, you are missing something.
The news piece reads "Police say they seized $240,107, five firearms, 20 pounds of marijuana, a half-ounce of cocaine, 11 vehicles and two bullet proof vests."
Not 20 pounds of Cocaine.
