"I had no idea of what to say"
He was trying so hard to be polite but couldn't help but laugh.

Yep, they're out there. Go to Chatfield on a Saturday morning if you want a laugh. There are some real winners especially at the South boat ramp.
I like to watch them load and unload the boat, they are going or have been water skiing but they will tiptoe around on the tonque of that boat forever to keep from getting wet.
It's like the people wearing the jogging and excersise clothes that will wait forever for someone to leave a parking space so thaey don't have to walk 10 more feet

Want entertainment?
Go to a boat ramp for an hour or so and just watch. Hilarious. Stupidity, arguing, drunks, awful outfits, etc.

In defense of these boaters, I was on Lake Dillon on the 4th and didn't see anyone wearing life vests. I can almost guarantee the only ones wearing them that day were kids and the rescuers themselves, though we all have them on our boats. We all make mistakes. I wish these folks the best and am thankful they're all okay.

I usually don't wear a life vest because I know how to swim.

Yo Dagoth!- Good to see your posts on a few! I enjoy them. I can swim too, but underwater weeds are a bi-atch. But, 15 in a small "boat," puh-leeze! LMYAO, ROF, LOL, etc.

Maybe they can get the anti-Texan 14er.com "Camp Dexter" money fraud group to gather and rescue the boat. Nope, they couldn't even rescue the dog. It had to get hit by a car to get "rescued".

I was actually there on July 4th.
I saw the Emergency vehicles go into the Frisco Bay Marina, I was on Main Street at the Buckhorn Brewery eating dinner, and my first thought was some drunk fell overboard.
My question is, how in the world did 15 people get away with being on board a 25 foot Catalina sail, they must have been sitting on top of each other, and where was the Lake Dillon Police??? I see them all the time on the water in their boats, you can't miss them.
I'm just glad no one got injured or killed

I read that the 15 were illegals that hitched a ride on the boat to the other side of the lake where they were going to meet an intermediary who was going to stuff them in a VW beetle and drive them to Iowa to work in the meat packing plants. Looks like they didn't quite make it.

These people never cease to amaze me. 15 people in an VW. This is just funny, glad they sank. At least we know they can all swim pretty well although I'm sure they were shocked by the cold temperature of our water. Not quite like the Rio Grade.....

Now I have sailed for a major part of my life. I slowed down when it came to going after my dream career of flying professionally. Through both of them I have learned that if the container can safely hold a certain number, that is the maximum number, which you can safely carry. I wonder where the 15 people sat on the 25-foot sail boat and how did the boom come across the boat when he changed tacks?
I thought you said you have been sailing for years? You have never heard the nautical term "DUCK!" HA!:<)

We past the boat port to port just minutes before it sank. He had the rail in the water and people on both rails. We could see the keel and commented about the number of people on the boat and how far over it was heeled. A few minutes later when we came about we noticed all the people in the water and several boats heading that way; one was the Sheriff. At the marina we were told the owner is a young doctor and not a very experienced sailor. He obviously has the brains to go to med school but he wasn't using them that day! The only way I know of that a 25' sailboat can sink that fast is if the skipper didn't release the main and jib sheets. It was very gusty at the time of the accident, and he probably had them cleated. I find it interesting that charges have been filed, but he'll probably only get a slap on the wrist since no one was killed. They are all very lucky--especially the doctor because he could have lots everything if someone had been injured or killed. Take this as a reminder that Lake Dillon can be treacherous, and it's a good idea to hold the "uncleated" sheets in your hand for quick release when it's blowin' like stink and gusting on Lake Dillon.
