The colorful Bubba Chinos empire is expanding across Denver and into Boulder

Full story: Denver - News, Events, Restaurants, Music from Denver, CO - Westword

This week, I reviewed the original Bubba Chinos location at 160 Federal Boulevard, where Leonard Cordova serves up a version of the green chile that his grandmother, Stella Cordova, made legendary at Chubby's. He's used that sauce to turn his own restaurant concept into an expanding mini-empire, with eight current locations and four or five more on ...

Leonard Cordova doesn't own Bubba Chinos Boulder, my son does. It's a case of Business Fraud. What Leonard Cordova has done is criminal and will be handled by the authorities.

That is a hefty accusation. You say your son owns the Boulder location, but it sounds like the original store was on Federal in Denver. Did he ever own that location? I am not saying you are wrong, I am just saying it is very hard to swallow an accusation like this when Mr. Cordova appears to own several locations and pioneered this business based on his family recipes. Perhaps Westword made a mistake and assumed the Boulder store also belonged to Mr. Cordova?

Help me understand your problem.

To help clear things up, i would just like to add that Leonard doesn't own any of the locations mentioned here, besides the one on 1st and Federal. Maybe there is some business fraud going on if Leonard is leading people to believe that he owns any of these other locations other than his.

I don't know much about Bubba Hotep or the expanding Hippie Empire but I do know if you need your plumbing checked before the cold weather hits you should call Steve's Plumbing. Whether it's a Giraffe stuck in your toilet or something as simple as a leaky faucet, these guys are professional and fast. When it comes to laying pipe, the rest are just hype.

So you are saying these stores are Franchised, and someone owns the rights to recipes or trade secrets, and regulates every day business operations? Again, the Westward paper named Leonard Cordova as the pioneer of the concept and recipes. Still not understanding the bottom line here.

If he simply owns a single store, and there are privately owned stores popping up in direct competition of his original store without purchasing a franchising right, I would say Cordova should be the one screaming fraud. So which is it? Did he pioneer a franchise, which he has contracted owners to follow the company guidelines in order to operate as such, or did they simply open stores with the same name which may or may not be against the law, but is most certainly tacky?

Last time I checked, private business licenses do not get purchased if A: There is already a private business currently using the name, or B: it is a franchise or corporation. Or C: Rights to the name were purchased from the original business owner with the stipulation that the original business will either cease operations, or become a corporation or franchise.

Westward went to Mr. Cordova for their story, which means he was named to them as the owner of Bubba Chino restaurants. So even if he is the biggest ass hat on the planet or not, I am not understanding where the allegations are coming from and why. Can you be more specific? I certainly will not be a patron of the establishment if there is indeed shady business practices being performed on Mr. Cordova's part.

First of let me start out by saying I have eaten at a few of the bubba chinos and I don't even see how those places stay in buisness, the 1st and federal location is so unsanitary and while dining there we seen a mouse run across the floor. if this establishment is so reprible they should clean their restaurants up and have a lil more dignity especially if they are being featured in magazines, have some class! they are serving food to humans not animals. I thought they where suppose to be better then chubbys fro
The look of it they are just as dirty as them.

Family greed and couldnt get along after Family members passed. Fronts for drug deals and shady biz. L. Cordova is not a trustworthy person and others such as Monica are sad pathetic biz runners who thrive on treating others as trash. they as well as others have done many horrible things to position themselves as buisness owners who make money on other people's ideas and concepts. The sad thing is the ammount of people that they cross and hurt and the complete disregard for any of them. the food is suspect and the original Chubby's is/was way better. Word of advise to all: Dont eat there to avoid getting sick and dont be around when bad things happen.
