I have seen almost everything that lives here in Colorado. At least it seems that way. What has been your favorite sighting? When was it? Where was it?

I think my favorite one was a cougar and her cubs up by Urey. I had some lowlander friends visiting from Ohio and I took them up box canyon by Urey. I think the road goes between Teluride and Urey.(Thats if you want to call it a road:) Of course this was a long time ago so things have probably changed.
Any way as we we were hiking up this one hill near the top of that road we were all spread out. I climbed on top of one of the giant boulders there and looked out across the hill and valley below. There, sitting wit her legs crossed on top of a rock about 20 yards away from me, sat the most beautiful cougar I've seen.

I watched her for a minute and suddenly realized that she was watching something right below her. Hiking up the hill directly under the huge bolder that she was sitting on was one of my Ohio friends. I started waving my arms and yelling out to him as he walked directly to the bottom of the bolder. He looked at me and I pointed at the cougar who was right above him now. He took a few steps back so he could see better and then it happened!!!

Loll, my buddy saw the cougar above him. Now this is an ex marine back from Viet Nam and riding his chopper across country. His eyes got as big as tennis balls and he turned around and started screaming as he ran down the hill:):) Loll. The cougar simply stood up, stretched out her legs, then calmly started walking up wards to where the bolder was berried in the hill. When she got off the bolder three cubs came out from under the rock and they all walked up the hill. I swear she was laughing as she walked:):)

I still don't know if my buddy ever stopped screaming and running:):) WAYS OUT!!!

Why would someone come in and put all of those negative judgments on a new post like this???

It must be some total retard as usual. I take that back. Retards's are much nicer people and more intelligent then that.

I've seen hawks, eagles, blue jays, big horn sheep, mountain goats, heard a bear growling close by, elk, deer, humming birds, a turtle, coyote. I think that's it.

It's been a while since I've been to the mountains so I dont recall when and where exactly, except this:

The sheep and goat were on Mt. Evans for the most part.

I'd have to say the big horn sheep were my favorite sighting because they came up to our car window and begged for handouts. One even jumped up on our car hood and stared in the window. Another one licked my dogs face (the dog was sitting in the back seat with her head out of the window).

Loll Ya, those on Mt. Evens have become famous all over the country. Our parks and recreation or whoever handles the wildlife have done a wonderful job of bringing back species that were close to the end and introducing some back that died out. I have seen a single wolf up in Caribou area. It was the only animal I ever saw, including a bear, that scarred me just a bit. I didn't expect to see the size of that thing! With a winter coat of hair they are enormous. There is no way to confuse one with a dog.

What do you think of marmot's? They only live on the western slope which is really cool. My guess would be that they...???...Actually, I don't have a clue as to why they don't live on the eastern slope? If you camp next to or inside of a large group of them they will entertain you all day long and bother you most of the night:):) They are a lot of fun.

Mine was a black bear near Carter Lake eating someone's camper because they left it open and forgot to clean up breakfast. I LOL'd for hours.

Loll That's great! Of course I probably wouldn't expect bears at Carter lake myself. That is cool that they were down that low:):)

You know...that's true, I have seen them on Mt. Evens also yet they are supposed to only live on the western slope. I suppose Mt Evens is on the divide and half of it is on the western slope? I never thought of that before because Mt. Evens and Pike's Peak are so far east.

You know they are (or already have) paving that entire road up Mt. Evens?

Loll You know Cherry Creek dam? Just about two miles down the stream a little past Hampdon in that gully we had a cougar walking along. It was about 4am five years ago and it is something I'll never forget:):)

Bears wonder in to the city all the time. It makes the news only if there is good video or a slow day. Do you know the story about the hunter guide that was malled by a grizzly by Pagosa Springs in the 70's or 80's? I still have the news article. They were supposed to be all out of Colorado but no one knows what is in that wild area down there.

What about a Bobcat?

This one I saw was at night way back in the forest on a 4 wheel road. Actually it was an overgrown animal trail:):) The cat walked right in front of our headlights and the thing I remember the most was how it's muscles rippled as it walked. That kitten face on a body that can tare me apart.
It is weird how every time I see something like that they have no fear and simply ignore me as if I wasn't there. I LOVE THE ROCKIES!!!
