Apparently a great deal since you can't seem to grasp the concept of what actually happened. Facts are facts little guy and our president imposed socialism and lost Americans billions and billions of dollars. This is only the beginning wait till OBAMACARE kicks in it will be a huge lost for all Americans.

Explain please how the U.S. tax payer came to own 26% of GM's stock if the government did not take over ownership of GM?

When the government took over GN they became the proud owners of 63% of the stock in GM. Bought and paid for with taxpayer money. Not too long ago over half of that stock was sold back to GM at a loss. A loss to the taxpayers of course. You might want to do a little more research and a little less LOLing. I know it sounds ridiculous. I know it goes against everything this country stands for. It happened.
Loll:):) I'm actually going to try to search this....I'm sorry but I can't even begin to think of how I would do a search for this. I'm afraid you will have to do the search. If it happened you will find it because people would have been arrested or...It simply can not be done!!! Perhaps someone was giving you an example of something or making an analogy. The USA government can not own or operate a for profit business. It would be impossible to even try such a thing. I think someone was telling you that by bailing out auto makers it is almost as if...such and such. Could that be the case?

Yes, the government bought stock. They originally bought 63% of the stock. 63% gave them a controlling interest which means they TOOK OVER!

That did NOT save the auto industry. It postponed the demise of GM. Had GM gone through a regular, legal, bankruptcy they would have been allowed to renegotiate union contracts and pensions guaranteeing their ability to exist long term. Instead, the union contracts that are pricing them out of business remained intact. In approximately 10 years they will be in exactly the same situation they were facing before. Had they gone through a normal bankruptcy, like the airlines have, they would have emerged stronger Only the original shareholders lost instead of everyone involved. Did anyone have shares of GM in one or more of the mutual funds in your 401k? If so you lost twice. First you lost money in your retirement account and second you lost money that you paid in taxes that was wasted. Spent to keep the Autoworkers union on Obama's list of supporters. Corruption at it's finest.

I'm taking a short break from decorating the Christmas tree so I don't have time to search right now. Why don't you start with the article Karl posted. Then I can't be accused of posting some right wing propaganda, lol. The article discusses the FACT that the government bought shares, has sold some, still owns some. How's that?
http://autos.aol.com/article/gm-2011-sharehol...
Yes, it should have been impossible. Yes, it happened anyway. Kinda like the old USSR right?

Worked? Billions of dollars lost, companies sold overseas, and major car bands gone. You seem to be delusional. Facts are facts no matter how bad it makes you feel.

What "companies" sold overseas?

Many car "brands" are "gone" do they still make the Studebaker, Pinto, Oldsmobile etc...."brands" come and go, nothing new.....

Your version of "Facts" is what is obviously delusional.
It didn't work. Gm is facing bankruptcy again, taxpayers and stock holders are losing money like crazy and soon gm will be the next hostess because of government interference. Chrysler sold to Italy and the taxpayers lost 1.3billion dollars, not to mention any Americans who had stock. Those car brand or gone because of the market... Hummer and Saturn are gone because of Obama and the federal government.
Keep trying to justify socialism little guy, it makes you look like a little kid throwing a tantrum. Facts are facts.

Karl, while I would like to see your side, I find you are as biased as those you condemn.

It's a shame few realize the world was not created for one color and only one color of people.

I would agree as well. Karl, unfortunately likes the attack and to call people liars, when truthfully he just disagrees with them and then lies to cover it up. I understand humanity but does mean the TRUTH shouldn't be pointed out!

You and truth do not go together.

You do the very things you try to condemn Karl for doing. It's as if you believe your nonsense to the point it starts to make sense in that thing you call your brain.

You are hateful. You go back on your word. You refuse to do what you said you would when Obama won.

Yet, you state Karl is the bad guy. You just need to change drugs.

I did go back on anything. I conceded gracefully. As for the truth socialism is not what the American dream is about and unfortunately that's what Obama and Karl are about. That is the truth.

No such expectation. Progressive liberals never treat people well with who they disagree with. That's fact.

I heard it was the conservative keep women in the home and out of the senate group.

Considering you declare with frequency that you are a conservative, there is no way you know how progressive liberals act.

It's a case of conservative brainwashing.

Lol. Then you heard wrong. I was for most of my young life a progressive liberal... I know exactly how they think and act and the public schools are a major influence on these young persons. Brain washed may be too strong a word but they strive for liberal ideals. When I started paying taxes, and the right for women to choose was used against me, was when I snapped out of the lame progressive mentality and learned to think for myself.

The fact remains progressive liberals hate those who disagree with them, call them liars, then belittle them so they feel good about their positions. This is fact. I did it for years just like Karl. But you can have your opinion.

Lastly women are highly regarded in conservative circles... Just because those women choose to raise their precious families and not become senators doesn't mean they are LESS.

Oh brother. You just take what is posted and twist the daylights out of it.

Conservatives brainwash. Liberals let you be your own person.

Funny thing (well, not so much) is I came here to read what the posters liked about their candidate in order to help decide for whom to vote. It all boiled down to vote for Romney because he isn't Obama.

That was not a good reason for voting for Romney. Did he ever do anything of value for the American people? I know he did much to the American people.

No one bothered to post of his merits/accomplishments/good deeds.

No wonder he lost.

Many bothered to post Romney's merits/accomplishments/good deeds. I was one of them. The problem is not that the information wasn't available. The problem is that it was ignored because it didn't fit the preconceived notion some had. Nobody likes to be wrong so the facts that proved you wrong were ignored.

It's the age old "don't confuse me with facts, my mind is made up" attitude.

Even if you didn't see enough info posted about Romney to suit you could have done your own research once it was pointed out that Obama was the worst president in history and why.

I'm fortunate. I'm in a good enough position to withstand what will happen to this country now. I do feel sorry for young people just starting out who will suffer for Obamas policies for a long long time. Probably the rest of their lives.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Libra

Be very careful when handling financial matters today because not everything is as straightforward as it seems. For instance, someone may tell you about a fail-safe way of making money but neglect to mention all the reasons why it's totally illegal. There could also be mistakes if you're spending money, such as being short-changed or overcharged. So watch out!
