my husband and i are moving to colorado from tennessee with our two children, 6 and 2 years old. we are looking at the colorado springs area since we have heard that the cost of living is lower there. we are open to the other cities around the major cities also but are just not sure of where the best place would be as far as schools, work, outdoor activities such as parks and small shops and restraunts that are easy to get to to hang out with the kids whenever we feel the urge. i have been through colorado quite a few times but have not actually spent any time in the larger cities as an adult. my husband and i are 35 years old and are not into the bar scene or any parts of town that would be geared towards that crowd. we have been told to stay out of the newer towns because they lack culture and the fun and history of the older towns. we would appriciate ANY help on ideas or just opinions on whatever has to do with the area and living there. we do not have jobs yet and have just started the search. my husband has been a residential painter for the last 14 years and i was in retail management and office assistant work before i took the last 8 years off to care for my elderly grandmother before she passed and then our children. i am really looking forward to getting to colorado and back into the workforce!!! we would love any info that you have on jobs or great daycares or schools also!!! thanks SOOOOOOO much!!!!! cant wait to get to the mountains!!!!!

just watched house hunters and they were in platt park and greenwood village. any opinions on these areas? they said that greenwood has really good schools and lots of parks... and the main street in platt park looked just like the type of area we are hoping to be within walking distance to. any opinions on those areas?? thanks!!!=0)

I love the Greenwood Village area. It is a little older, quieter..cannot guarantee the close walking distance to shops though. The school district is one of the best in Colorado, at least it was 10 years ago.

Which Platte park..North or south..Big difference..How much diversity do you want..North is fairly new and was a less than desirable area..

so, its platte park... wasent sure how to spell it. we want a safe area where we wouldnt be affraid to let the kids play in the yard or go for walks around the nieghborhood. so, what is the south platte park area like?? we like fun, laid back, character and safe. with lots of parks near by... what are the prices as far as rentals go in denver? we would like an apartment for the first year that we are there until we get the feel for the areas and decide where we would like to settle permanently. any apartments to watch out for as far as gross or anything?? we want a pool that is nice for the kids....

I like Golden myself...Close to major interstate, safe, adorable, main street is walking distance from most residential streets, schools are great! Not to mention the breath taking view of the mountains on the west and Denver on the east :)

Colorado Springs is a beautiful city. You've got a lovely view of Pike's Peak and the Rocky Mountains. The only real downside that I've seen so far is the winters. It hit 30 below this last winter, causing the water pipes to break in my dorm...Other than that, it's a great city.

Very rarely goes below zero and doesn't last long. With the exception of a winter maybe 3 years ago I've had the top down on my convertible at least once a month for 16 years running. I'm on my 3rd convertible, love it. Over 300 days of sunshine a year here.

Colorado springs is a little higher than Denver..It can snow for a week or it can snow a foot one day and be gone the next..Lots of people wear shorts in the winter here..The weather can change drastically in a few minutes..But for the most part its always nice...In town it can be 70 but in the hills it can snow anytime..Just have to be ready for sudden changes..Not as warm as cali, not as wet and miserable as Seattle..Dont know about choclate chip but I know where" Titty peaks "is..

Stay away. We already have too many ex Californians trying to mess up this state in the same manner California is messed up.

That was very mean Mr.....oh hmm, Texas? We got lots of those too. And we have lots of everywhere else. The only thing we do not have a lot of here are actual Coloradoans. I myself am a Colorado native, I know I know it is rare! Do not listen to this guy, he does not speak for the majority. I hope you have a safe and happy move to our beautiful state.

It was that cold for a couple of days. I know the second day, the day after the first water line broke in one of the neighboring dorms and we were ushered out into the cold, the fire alarm went off again at 7A and we were ushered out again. It was pretty bad. Yeah, I was able to go out and to my classes. My coat's pretty warm, and I have an insulating face mask. It was so cold that it didn't feel cold, though.

"Chocolate Chip" mountains?*I* haven't heard of them...

Listen to this one. They're right. While the winters *can* be pretty cold, it's usually very nice outside (with the weather frequently spazzing out). The weather doesn't like to make up its mind...
