Thousands of teens pledge to stay pure until marriage

This is one of the dumbest things I've heard in a while...they need to expand the pledge to: "stay pure AND IGNORANT." I guarantee that, despite the pledge, a majority of these kids will have sex before marriage and not only will they be miseducated about the dangers of STD's and the realities of teen pregnancy, they will also be more likely to suffer depression and self loathing because they will consider themselves to be "un-pure" in the eyes of their god, family, and friends. It's ok to not have sex before marriage, but it doesn't make you any more pure than the someone who doesn't. Purity has nothing to do with sex and everything to do with how you treat yourself and others regardless of marital status, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender etc...

I made that same pledge over 4 years ago along with pledging not to drink, smoke, try drugs. I made that pledge with my entire graduating class, and I honestly don't think a single one of us kept our promise on any of the above. I hope these guys do better than we did.

I am gay, how can I stay pure until marriage if I am not allowed to marry. FYI, putting this kind of pressure on kids to stay pure is cruel and unusal punishment. Our kids live with enough guilt they don't need this kind of pressure.

That is so great! I can't even tell anyone how blessed all these teens will be. We waited until we got married- it was really hard, but that just made it more special on that special day. Not to mention- we don't ever have to worry about any STD's because we know we were both pure. It is a personal commitment between you and your future spouse and God and I think that is how everyone should be. I pray that this infects all of Denver! God Bless and Good for them!!!

It isn't pressure from their parents- or their school- in fact, most parents encourage their kids to live with that person before marriage. It is something that is a personal choice. Just like it was your choice to be gay.

Those were not the same type of pledges though- that is something every high school does right before prom- to try to scare kids. THIS IS A COMMITMENT BETWEEN YOU AND GOD. NOT ANYONE OR ANYTHING ELSE. Plain and simple.

The comments from the godless christaphobes are typical, although I would expect to see these types of comments on Huffington Post, or DailyKos...

Typical lefties who are for free sex, and babies having babies. They'll make fun of peoples attempts/pledges to staying pure... but in the same breath tell everyone they must be Politically correct and tolerant of this or that other religion.

Remember YOU (the christian) MUST be 'tolerant' of gays, drugs, sex etc.. but THEY (the mega-liberal-isaurus types) can make fun of your faith all they want etc..

They're hypocrites, and to top it off.. they're actually promoting THEIR kids having sex at early ages with multiple people. Since they most likely "believe" in evolution, this is sort of ironic... natural selection taking place among the athiest secular progressives....since their kids will be the ones dying of aids, getting herpes, HPV... while the christian people will be having multiple healthy children once they're married.

Eventually liberals will reap what they sow... and its not just STD's that will eliminate a lot of these people, but also their drug use, alcohol abuse, violence, and general debauchery that will ultimately lead to their destruction.

A plethora of reasons exists as to why they make fun of those who don't conform to their secular progressive free sex for everyone above the age of 12 mentality. But rest assured fellow christians/abstainers, the downright balderdash of the naysayers is blatently obvious---

Just listen to their arguement for why abstainence souldn't be advocated...

Argument #1 "we weren't able to keep our pants on as kids, so why should we expect our kids to"

Argument #2 "Sex feels good, so why not allow our kids to do it"

Argument #3 " most people don't have enough self control to practice abstainence, therefore we should just promote sex with the use of a .10mm piece of plastic (which we know can break easily, and doesn't stop HPV/Herpes/Scabies which can be in the pubic area)

So basically the red herrings that the pro-teen-kid-sexers use are nothing but a bunch of whiny drivel based upon their own moral failings --- and lack of willpower.

SP's (secular progressives) have no respect for Christianity, Abstainence, or the concept of trying to keep yourself physically/spiritually pure.

Really their problem doesn't lie with abstainence, but what it represents, which in case someone reading this doesn't know--- it represents Christianity. And really their problem with Christianity lies in the fact that the basic tenet of the christian faith is that we are sinners.

SP's don't like to think of themselves as sinners. Rather they are by definition "self righteous"... look the definition up on www.dictionary.com ... its a perfect fit for them.

SP's also have a problem with a few of the 10 commandments... sure they agree with "you shall not kill", "you shall not steal".... but when it comes to "you shall not commit adultery or fornication", or "you shall have no other gods before me"... then they start to waver.

You see, on the things of spiritual importance, such as not lying, cheating on your partner, having promiscuous sex, or idol worship, they hate to be called out on being in violation, in fact they deny their own consciences and make the bold claim that their is no law to violate.

Thus making themselves feel better about the sins they commit, or downright telling themselves (and everyone else around them I might add) that there is no God, therefore they can do whatever feels good at any given moment-- since THEY believe there are no moral consequences.

My point of saying all this..... trying to get them to stop "treating others without respect" as you said... is a fruitless effort unfortunately.

In other words, A tiger can't change it's stripes, when it attacks, it's better just to shoot it so to speak. ;^)
