""Yet, as NRDC Executive Director Peter Lehner explained recently, diesel engines are "a major contributor to climate change." They are responsible for nearly a quarter of global emissions of black carbon, which is the "second largest human-made contributor to global warming.""

Another overpaid clown. The Federal clean air tier requirements have cleaned up diesel exhaust as well as the Federal mandate for low sulphur content diesel fuel. The power outage wasn't that long, the generators wouldn't have been online continously for days. So, what is this guy's "point".

As for this Country's power grid, we have had event after event to show the weaknesses intrinsic to the overall reliability of the grid. Just a couple of years ago an electric company technician working at a transmission station in Yuma Arizona, supposedly caused a trip that caused a cascade shutdown event that affected power from the Arizona border to Orange County California. The national grid NEEDS massive power storage facilities around the grid infrastructure and a "smart grid" to monitor and react in the milli-seconds it takes to avoid a cascading shutdown and minutes instead of hours to recover from a cascading shutdown.
