What was more interesting than the car they were driving (an Audi) were the headline and some of the statements.
“All five soldiers recently returned from Iraq; alcohol believed to play role in crash“
“The doctor who did first aid said he smelled alcohol,”
“The five male soldiers were traveling toward Kaiserslautern early Sunday in a rented Audi station wagon when the car drove off the side of Autobahn 63, causing the vehicle to flip and eject everyone”
It’s a damn shame that some of our soldiers would behave in such a way.
I'm not saying these soldiers were drunk, but I do agree...My husband tells me every week of someone in the coast guard who got a dui and sometimes in a government vehicle...

Unless you've been deployed to a war zone for the last 15 months I don't really think you have a right to question how our soldiers act upon their return. They've been away from family, friends and anything that is familiar to them for a long time. They've seen things we cannot imagine, experienced events that will scar them for life, and lost people who are close to them. These soldiers live with their units as families and losing three of them in such a close knit community is a tragedy and does not warrant criticism of their behavior. One of these men was my son's driver during this deployment and he was very close to him. He spoke at his memorial service and felt the loss of the soldiers deeply. This is a sad time for everyone who knew these fine young men and they deserve the respect of all of us - no matter how they died.
No disrespect, and I get these guys go through a lot...but yeah their behavior does need to be "questioned" sometimes...especially if they are driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, abusing alcohol and narcotics, beating their families, etc.

Do I feel for these soldiers? Yes, I do. But excusing them from such behavior because they went to war is not right.

Why is it you derive pleasure from acting like a jerk?
Frauke you took this WAY out of context and WAY too literally and I don't appreciate you even making the slightest suggestion that our soldiers are jerks. Our soldiers are heros...when these guys make it back home to us after a long deployment then HELL ya they have earned the right to rock it for a few days until they have to get back to work again to protect your ass. These soldiers passed away after surviving a long deployment...this is not the forum to make the kind of comment you made. Start something somewhere else if you need to spew your judgemental liberal bullshit. People are greiving here.

These soldiers also fight for our freedom of speech...something Frauke has the right to use on a public forum.

My daughter would know about WHAT are soldier's are fighting for...especially something as important as freedom of speech...=)

Instead I get from some of these posts they are apparently fighting for their right to party and do whatever the hell they want when they come back from war...as if going to war excuses their reckless behavior...If people stopped excusing them from doing these things and gave them proper emotional support we would have less of these problems...

Sounds like the boys may have been having a little too much fun. Fresh from war, "undergoing a reintegration process", drinking, not wearing seat belts, driving falling asleep at the wheel. Driving on German Autobahns is not like driving somewhere on a cow pasture in Arkansas.
