Sorry to disagree with Mr. Bracamontes, but 1st AD has NOT been in Wiesbaden, Germany since 1971. In 1971 1st Armored Div was deployed to Ansbach in Bavaria. After several deployments back and forth from Germany to Gulf War (1990), Bosnia (1995), Kosovo (1999) and Operation Iraqi Freedom; 1st Armored got to Wiesbaden on 8 December 2008.
Not that this changes the crux of the story.
More investigative reporting from the Times, pitiful as it is.

Shouldn't they be winning a war somewhere? Or maybe this is the beginning of Obama beefing up the Southern border.

the big red one. thanks for all your service but please dont retire and become a cop until you've been out at least two years. just a thought. thanks for all you do.
Sorry Billy, "The Big Red One" is the 1st Infantry Division. The 1st Armored Division is nicknamed, "Old Ironsides" - you know, like the wheelchair bound detective Raymond Burr played on TV in the early 70's...

In today's update to this story (front page of print edition), Mr. Bracamontes gets an assist from Mr. Roberts yet they perpetuate a lack of simple research on 1st Armored Division's history.

Again, doesn't change to main point of the story - Fort Bliss went from Cavalry post to Air Defense Artillery post to (now) heavy Armored post. However, if you're going to describe a unit's proud history, please put some effort into getting it correctly.

Thanks.

You are asking the Times to actually get the facts straight, would'nt that be historic. You would think with todays technology they would use some new thing called a computer and another new thing call the World Wide Web, apparently there is useful information on this new new marvel of science, and it supposedly has history also. You would think, HUH?

This is all part of the globalists' plan to make America a Police State. Wait until these soldiers come knocking on our own door to surrender all of our possessions and weapons. I do not have nothing against these troops. I feel bad for them because they do not understand what this country is actually doing. We are going to be the globalists' slaves if people in America don't wake up!!! go to infowars.com and you will know what I am talking about.
You mean someone posted an outlandish conspiracy theory on the internet about our government being out to get its own people? Holy cow then it MUST be true! I don't have to research any further, compare actual facts, historical data or develop an actual thought or opinion of my own again...EVER!!! Thanks for the info you changed my life!......end sarcasm here......how's the weather in your world Skippy?
