Change the law. Leave these people alone. Happiness in this world is hard enough to find. There must be issues far more important for Germany to attend to than this.

I agree that if they are consenting adults, its no one's business. You can't control who you are attracted to. They did not grow up together and only met years later as adults.

I agree with the law, it should not be overturned.
Yes happiness is hard to find but its not impossible! She can find happiness elsewhere. It's disturbing that they would even get to that stage!!

That is disgusting and uncalled for. A brother and sister are not meant to be having sex, nevermind producing children. Two of the four children are disabled. Could these selfish people not have adopted?

I think it should not have gotten to this stage. It is wrong siblings to have any sort of sexual encounters and having kids, knowing the risks your putting your own children at, its just wrong. They may feel a stronger connection now that they have gone through all this together but that doesnt make it right. Separate - it would be hard but people seperate/divorce all the time - then move on to a healthy and normal relationship with someone NOT related to you. Your children are going to grow up very confused if not. Their Mum is their Aunty and their Uncle is their Dad and their siblings are their cousins - No, you have to end this its not right. Dont let the kids think this is right or something they can do.

The sister already has mental problems (according to at least one source), so it is argued that the brother is using her in a way. they have so far had at least two handicapped children, one of which has both physical and psychological handicaps. incest is not okay simply because of inbreeding and a very high risk of hurting (yes hurting) your children by increasing the risk of birth defects. being "consenting adults" is not enough, if it involves hurting children.

I'm sure they can find love among the millions of other people available. which, according to sources the lady did while her brother was in jail.

I think they should be able to do whatever they want in terms of their relationship. Who's place is it to tell them that they can't be together, as long as they are not harming anyone in the process.

These relationships are strange at the very least.
I don't think it is a legal right to purposely bring children into the world whose health is most likely compromised for the rest of their lives, causing them unnecessary hardship. Take the case of recent Australian father/daughter couple John Deaves 67 and Jenny Deaves 39. Their first child died at birth. The present 9 month old daughter seems yet healthy but who knows later...
I suppose incest can hardly be forbidden with the exception of social stigmatizing, but - if love is blind - it should be reasonable to expect these 'couples' to practice some form of safe birth control.

I don't know what to think. Legally they're not family since he was adopted by an other family but incest is genetic jepordy

I have just watch 20/20 in New Zealand about this couple. I think it is bigger crime to take their children from them. Those poor kids growing up with out their mum and dad. Yes, no matter what Susan and Patrick are mum and dad to their older three children.

I agree with kiwi. Poor kids. Not being able to spend their childhood with their parents. Just because their siblings it doesn`t mean that they are bad parents. I think incest is a very bad thing, but these people did not grew up togheter. They have never had siblings-feelings to one other. When they first met they were strangers. Its not like they had rooms next to eachother and went to the other after their mom went too bed

this is the point! They are harming other people. They are harming their own children.
a) The children may be born disabled.
b) They may not be recognized in society, laughed at in school etc, simply because their parents were ignorant enaugh to produce them!!!

Very long post, since I'm really disgusted by the way the law treats these people.

The law is insane. These people have not hurt anyone. Yet the way the law treats them is disgusting. I've seen mass murderers treated better than these poor people.

I agree that incest IS risky, and there ARE higher chances of things like deformities and being disabled, but there are also increased chances of deformities and disabilities in children who have PARENTS who are disabled.

A parent ALWAYS shares 50% of genes with their offspring (unless they have a very rare disease like chimerism) so if they have a hereditary disability their children DEFINATELY have a 50/50 chance of getting the disability causing genes.

Full siblings on the other hand share 50% of genes ON AVERAGE. They can share almost no genes at all! So Patrick and Susan's children could actually be in little danger of getting disability causing genes.

So the law allows people with hereditary disabilities to have children even though their children ALWAYS have a 50/50 chance of being disabled while they go to great lengths to separate people whose children have A CHANCE of having a disability? I am frightened to think such stupid people run the country.

As for all of you people who say Patrick and Susan's relationship is "gross" care to give a reason why? The fact is you can't because it isn't. You are ignorant people. Though that is not really your fault. It's the way society teaches people that makes you think it's "gross".

As for you, paradise bird, I understand what your saying, and I mainly agree with you. It's true that any decent parents want their kids to have the best chances of survival and inbreeding between such close relatives is not a very good way to go about that. But like I said, disabled people are allowed to have kids, even though their offspring have equal, if not higher chances of disabilities than the offspring of siblings. So I really don't think ANYONE should be stopped from breeding with anyone else of the same species. People should be made aware of the risks of things that aren't a very good idea, like incest and having kids if you have a serious hereditary disease, but if they know the risks and still want to have sex and/or kids then I don't think anyone really has the right to stop them.

Let them be! This is a rare case. Its not like these types of things happen everyday. Just look around, in general couples who produce disabled children are not brothers and sister. The last time I checked most of them are legally maried normal ppl who produce disabled kids!

So many judgmental people commenting and acting like God. Do you think you are so perfect ??? so saintly to pass judgement?? Why dont you take a good look at yourself ??? You have no idea how they feel! Cus you have never been in their place!

Why dont each of you live your own life and try to make it better without trying to be God to others? There are things 1000 times worse happening in the world today. There are kids getting raped and murdered for no reason, massacres in schools, suicide bombers happening everyday ! What are you doing abt them?

So get a life and let these ppl live theirs.

This is really sick. They are siblings no matter what, they've done something foul and I believe they should be placed in mental institutions and if for some reason they are to be released then they should not be allowed to have any contact with one another. Their children will now not be able to live 'normal' lives and even their healthy children could grow-up to produce kids with disabilities because of their sick parents. And for the people who say "Leave them alone!" what has happened to morals and values? Where is the world heading to? If this 'couple' ends up being able to have this immoral relationship then that means it'll be there for the next generations. This is GROSS.
