Hello Boyd, Think Capt. Sweeny was your BC and then Lt. John Walters. I was BC of C 2/41. I can put you in touch w/Johnand Col. Knopp.

Hello Peter,
I rotated back at the end of 1966, just after the Peden Trophy competition. I was processed out at Ft. Dix on Jan. 3 of '67. CPT Sweeney was the BC of Bravo when I left and 1LT Walters took over shortly thereafter, as I recall. I have spoken with John a number of times as he makes it a point to call on Veterans Day. I vaguely remember LTC Knopp and I assume he took over as CO 2/41. If I remember correctly, MAJ Morgan was leading the battalion when I left. Of course, that was many years ago and a lot of the brain cells are long gone. Do you have any idea of what happened to CPT Sweeney? I think he went over to Nam and made it back okay. Last I heard, he was living in California. I would appreciate any contact info you have on him. Did you know Jim Metelko? I saw on the internet that he ended up a COL before he retired. He may have been before your time in 2/41. Lastly, I have been trying to remember the name of your 1SG. He was a colorful guy and always answered the phone, "Charging Charlie, First Sergeant!"
I hope all is well with you and I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

IF MEMORY SERVES ME CORRECTLY THE 3rd MED HAD A MOTOR POOL ON READY KASERNE PAST OUR MAINT. BLDG ACROSS THE POST STREET FROM OUR MOTOR POOL AND JUST BEFOR THE EM CLUB. ONE OF THE BARRACKS ON READY HAD UNITS NOT BELONGING TO THE 4/64. I THINK IT WAS FOR A MAINT. COMPANY AND MAYBE SOME MEDICS.
I WAS A DRIVER ON THE ONLY M6O A1 IN THE BN, HQ66 UNDER SGT. ALGIER B. MYRICK, A BLACK SGT WHO WAS WELL LIKED BY ALL OF US.
Was with Co. "B" 4/46th from May 66 to May 69. Was the gunner on B-22. Eventulally assigned as Company Armorer/mail clerk. Was reassigned to BN as Armorer my last few months.

Al: Do you have any photos of the building, area, etc. If you read the earlier postings, you saw I was there in 62-63 but moved around a lot. I need to fill in some missing memories with pictures.

I was stationed in Aschaffenburg from the end of 1963 through the middle of 1966. I was the company clerk for a HQ company. The first 1st Sgt was James Beam, and the CO was Ronald W Jones. After, I do not remember their names. Probably if someone said their names, then I would remember. I am trying to remember which kaserne I was in. I think it was Fiori. Does anyone remember the Matchbox? Frau Fischer made the best schnitzel sandwiches. The Matchbox was very close to the main entrance. I wonder if anyone remembers a girl named Dagmar? Also, how about the Dixie Bar?

When I arrived at 3rd Med we were located in Fiori. Captain Hull was our co,1stsgt Kelly arrived the same day as I and sp5 Level.Captain Hull had a hole in his dress uniform hat.He said he would get a new when he made major which he did just before leaving Germany. Captain Hoeffer of B company took over A company after we were transferred to Graves. Later Lt.Brennan took over Headquarters & Company A.
Captain Hull was the best CO we had in my 2& half years in A'BURG. A real down to earth guy who always had time to listen to anyone.

MJVSR-Have you been on this site: http://www.usarmygermany.com/Sont.htm... You may be correct about 3rd Battalion being on Ready Kaserne. The site mentioned above has pix of the housing and Ready looked more familiar than the others. Remember I said we lived on the top floor and had those small windows that jutted out from the mansard roof? Ready looks like that. Behind our building the kids German kids played soccer My ex-husband's name is Lynn Graves, he drove for his Captain (who was from Texas). He also worked within walking distance from our housing, he came home for lunch. I am new to Facebook and I am trying to find a way to search for A'burg friends. I hope we can locate more old friends.
when i was their in the early 70's on fiori kaserne was the 509 engineers, 1st of the 4th infanty and the 3rd of the 21 field artillery. i was in the 3 of the 21st. it was an honest john rocket battalion then. in 74 they changed over to the lance missles system and became the 1st of the 80th field artillery. i never trained on it because i was too short to go home. there was government housing across the street from fiori. dont remember the direction. we always went out the side gate and there was the housing. a lady had a trailer parked by that side gate every day. sold all kinds of stuff. we called her moxsnix annie.
