Why can't we complain? We are being sucked dry by the govt for not paying for insurance. Hence taking the money we need to be legal. Making it impossible for low income people like me to BE legal. And as for driving being a privilege then why don't you walk to work like I do and see how Unprivileged YOU feel! It's called double jeopardy, not to mention that the US constitution says the govt can't force us to buy a product or service, making insurance requirement unconstitutional - for cars OR your health!
There are costs associated with driving a car.
If you can't afford them, that is sad.
But I have the right to be protected from your mistakes.

Driving is what makes you a living, they want you to pay but supend your licens with no notification till you get pulled over again and then thats another surcharge on top of the last one. dont be a compiant citizen when you dont know what were talking about. texas has found away to break the law .

You're wrong. Change your address on your license and you'll get proper notification. Besides, you're supposedly an adult, take care if your business and others won't have to. It's called accountability and responsibility. Try it out.

Why do you feel that you should not be held accountable for your actions?
Do you feel that no one under 18 should be required to obey any laws?

If they're a half-wit, you must be the whole-wit. I hope you are kidding about this being double jeopardy. If not, there's no sense in explaining the obvious to the oblivious.

And by the way, I completely disagree with the whole surcharge program and believe it's a scam. The problem with joining such causes are the obliviots already fighting the cause are just that...obliviots.

i know that this post is very old but i agree with tamara. I dont know the details about how they are using this money, but i feel it is un fair and unlawful to penalize someone 4 seperate times for the same offense. you get assessed a fine when you go to court, then you have to pay fines for the same offense for another three years. I dont agree. good luck if you are still with it

Carry insurance, get a DL, don't speed, don't drive drunk...don't worry about surcharges. Seems pretty simple. Or you can blame the system.

I have dedicated many months of my time to prepare a report of sorts on the DRP. What I have discovered is that the entire fate of Texas is connected to the Surcharge Program. This is because the money from the Unconstitutional program is earmarked for the Tran-Texas Corridor, which is a strategic segment of what is to become a Super Corridor that spans the entire North American Continent.
The state is suspending people's license over not paying an excessive surcharge fee that is in addition to what you agree to in court. What's more is the money is going to pay for the Corridor projects, without consent or knowledge of the People or Congress! I believe that spreading the word would enable individuals to better deal with the negative effects that the TX DRP has had on their lives, as well as have a say in their own future.

I agree that paying $140/month and then $210/month is ridiculous. I intend to fight it. At first I thought it was only one fine but it recurs every year at the same time meaning after three years you have ridiculous fines you cannot afford to pay. I can't pay my bills. I already went to jail over the issue and paid money in court and to my attorneys, I should not have to fork over 25% of my money just to drive.

And to those saying driving is a privledge... who the fuck says that? Its a right to motility, as a human I have a right to move about. Just becuase they continue to make laws and restrict your freedom and you love it, doesn't mean the rest of us deserve to be boxed in like you...

The one thing I noticed in this thread is the allegation that the surcharges were put in place by the legislature without the consent of the people.
Truth is, the legislature IS the peoples representatives and therefore express the will of the people. Thus, the original statements are not entirely factual.
This doesn't mean that I disagree with the surcharge or the usage of the funds generated.
This also doesn't mean that I don't believe that politicians can't be bought by special interests. That happens all the time.
The best solution is to vote the bast..ds out of office after 2 terms. That will limit the damage they can do.
