Is there a way we could donate money to help buy them a new van?

I'll donate. How can we make this work. Perhaps there is a dealership out there that can help.

That is so sad. Surely someone will either set up a fund or one of the car dealerships will donate a van to this family. I wish I was in a position to buy her a van.

She is a wonderful mother for taking such great care of her son. I'm sure it wasn't easy. Congratulations and God Bless him for graduating! Way to go!

I want to donate too. I wonder how funds like this are set up. This seems like a really awesome young man with a wonderful mother, and it saddens me that something like this happened.

I would love to help as well. I know that if look on all of the news anchors/reporters' bios, sometimes they include their NBC5 email. Perhaps we should email them and ask to see if the public could donate to a fund that is set up for this mother and her son.

You can send the money to me :-)

Well, here it comes. Every time you buy something 1% of that money goes to Dart. They provide Handirides, which is a small bus that will come to your house, help you out the door, load you in the bus, drive you across the massive dart service area, and unload you.

Now the story did not say what city they were in, but the employer was in Irving, and I know they serve that area also, because I see one everyday taking my hadicaped neighbor to school.

Now this van will probably be found eventually and there will be some damage. But over-all, I doubt if the kid will miss graduation.

Sad story, but you already give everytime you buy something.

Just don't let me influence your decision.

Yeah, I was wondering why they couldn't use DART, either.

It never ceases to amaze me that some people are so darned mean and cruddy.

There has to be a way for someone to help this woman and child get to graduation - surely someone at the school can help them??

I hope the van is found and not in a chop shop.

To whoever stole the van - what goes around, comes around....you WILL get yours in the end.

I work with this lady and we are in the process of trying to set up a benefit or trust fund. This will allow all those that want to help an opportunity to do so.

Thank you all!

Kim, how about just helping her with paying for Dart Handi-rides? That is the most logical solution, in my opinion.

According to another channel, they live in Balch Springs. The report I watched last night briefly showed a photo of the son with the van. The van had huge chrome rims; I betcha that's why it was stolen.

I don't understand how she could afford (what looked like) very expensive custom wheels, but couldn't afford insurance.

When you get section 8 housing, disability, lone star card, medicade, etc. Ot is easy to buy these things. That is why when you go to the food stamp office, you see escalades, mercedes, etc. It is crazy. And my poor mother can't afford to buy her medicine. But if I object, that makes me a racist.

I used to work with Sp. Ed. Kids 4th 5th and 6th grade.
And Roshard was one of the kids in my class.
He is a totally awesome young man.
I’m very proud of him.
When I seen him on the news had tears in my eyes to see he is graduating. Very proud of you Roshard way to go!!!!!!!!
But what I do not understand is why this has to be about the rims on the van.
About what population lives in your area.
And the racism.
I see some said dart.
This is a good idea to get him to graduation but what happens then is Dart always going to be there when they need to go some where or need to do something?
Never the less will keep them in my thoughts and prayers.
Bobbie you need any thing let me know my number is still the same as it was when he was in Elem. School.
Love you Roshard WAY TO GO !!!!!!!!!!

Re Dart: you call to make an appt. for pickup. I have friends who use this for dr appointments, job interviews, daily work transportation, etc. They qualify and use it regularly with only occasional minor complaints.
