So Obama is going to lead the world into a Utopian nuclear free era, as soon as we make sure no terrorists have nuclear weapons. Which is what we have been doing since about 1950. Pretty words, no action.

Just FYI, vowing to "pursue a planet free of nuclear weapons" is more encompassing than just "keeping them out of terrorists hands", which of course, is also still a goal. It is also very different than vowing to "rid the world of nuclear weapons". do you see the semantic difference?
If you actually listenened to the speech, he added "it may not happen in my lifetime". So the goal is actually realistic. Reducing the number of weapons now, and establishing a way for countries to get materials needed for energy production through an internationally managed source.
He also said (parpaphrased to best of my recollection) "make no mistake, the US will always have a uclear deterrent as long as any of these weapons exist".

Nuclear weapons have kept the peace for 64 years. Unlike the Chinese or North Koreans, the US can't just keep marching troops against its enemies until they run out of bullets. Nuclear weapons have served to counterbalance our enemies' advantages in numbers and will to sacrifice their people in order to achieve their objectives. We would be fools to voluntarily relinquish that counterbalancing force.

blah, blah, blah. God this guy talks to hear himself talk. General rhetoric. WTF does this even mean? Lets worry about goals that can actually be achieved. The only way nuclear weapons will go away is if a superiour weapon is developed and countries have no interest in nuclear weapons. No country can take the risk of not having them in their arsenal as they will never truly know who has them at their disposle.

I'm happy and proud to hear that President Obama is interested in moving in the right direction - away from nuclear war - and in making the US a leader in a peaceful movement. I agree with Kevin Martin of Peace Action; I believe that the President's goals should be even more bold. Furthermore I hope that this "leadership" will not involve military aggression. The missile defense shield, for example, is without justification because Iran hasn't been able to develop a nuclear weapon. We should lead by example and with concern for the welfare of humanity, not by trying to police the world out of fear.

STOP WASTING TIME and running for friggin' office. You got the job! Now do something about the 600,000 who are losing theirs monthly. It's starting to look like Obama wants a friggin' 1930's 'style' depression so he can play FDR and save us. What are you waiting for? Quit babbling about things that you can't do and concentrate on those that you can and must do.

LONG LIVE BARACK OBAMA wrote: The American people trust that Barack Obama will conscientiously address issues related to nuclear weapons. LONG LIVE PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA! Speaking of Barack Obama: Barack Obama is a racial-minority individual and does not like racism: CONSTRUCTIVE WORLDWIDE DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION RELATING TO SCANDALS: (I) I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed atrocious, racist, hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention. Many people know what Bush did. And many people will know what Bush did—even until the end of the world. Bush was absolute evil. Bush is now like a fugitive from justice. Bush is a psychological prisoner. Bush often worries. In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy. (II) It is opined that Bill Clinton committed terrifying, racist, hate crimes during his presidency, and I am not free to say anything further about it. Numbers 32:23:‘Be sure your sins will find you out.’ (III) What if basically all racial-minority people would subscribe to the interpretations that George Herbert Walker Bush committed monstrous, racist, hate crimes while he was the President of the United States? It will eventually come out: it is only a matter of time. (IV) I know it may be hard to believe. However, Ronald Wilson Reagan committed horrible, racist, hate crimes during his presidency. Once again, Obama has proved that he is clueless about the reality of the world we live in. Obama should be the president of the Walt Disney Corporation, not the United States of America.
