"It is nice that he says he will do a DNA test now," he (Riis) said, when asked about this. "But I wonder why he couldn't do that with us... We were of course talking about it. We didn't say that he had to do it, as we can't insist on something like that, but of course we asked him about the possibility of it. We left open all the possibilities to prove that he is clean.
"If he had done a DNA test, sure... he would have
been able to stay. That would have solved a lot of problems, of course."
Riis would have KEPT BASSO if basso agreed to give DNA!? What's the difference between this and Discovery signing Basso, in part, with Basso's assurance he would provide DNA if asked????
Riis is being very hypocritical here...this is no big surprise.
To be consistent, the pro teams should object to Riis and CSC's intent to keep Basso!!! They should also move to expell CSC as well--that's how absurd this whole mess has become!! Why should they only object to Basso signing on with Discovery when Riis would have kept him had things turned out different?
Give us fans a break!!! Settle this mess, once and for all before the new season begins. Accept the fact that Basso's case has been dismissed, was given permission to ride and that he now rides for a different team!

[From 10/28/06 news feature regarding the possibility of future sanctions resulting from the Operation Puerto affair]:
"...Although Ivan Basso, Jan Ullrich and others claim their innocence and say that they have had no dealings with Dr. Fuentes, they have so far refused to provide the DNA samples which would show conclusively that their blood was not amongst the large quantity seized in the May raids. In fact, Basso’s lawyer has claimed that DNA testing is of limited inaccuracy, despite the fact that it has been used in countless criminal trials across the world.
Recent moves have been made to introduce such DNA testing as part of the new anti-doping measures being planned for the future. Even though this is at an early stage, McQuaid feels that pressure from within the sport could put pressure on the Operación Puerto-implicated riders who refuse to provide samples."It would be the AIGCP or the ProTour teams who would take action on this," he explains."As things stand, there is possibly no action you can take against such riders, but I think that the feeling amongst the large majority of the teams is that it is unacceptable [to sign for a ProTour squad without providing a DNA sample.] Therefore any team that decides to try to sign such rider would be taking a risk."
The possibility of future sanction is something which he feels also needs to be weighed up."Not only that, they would also be taking an additional risk that when this thing [the Spanish court case] does come to an end, the files will be opened up again. It might be next June or July or August, but when things are opened up, the rules of the ProTour Code of Conduct state that the rider has to be suspended once more."In addition to that, the team will have to continue to pay him until such time as the whole thing is finished. I feel that teams have to take all those things into consideration before they make any decision in relation to signing these riders...."

Well I got rid of Ivan Basso. I'll be accepted by the Big Boys!
Oh Shit, Discovery signed Ivan Basso. That's not fair.
Ivan Basso: "I'm Back!"
I'm just going to eat some CSC boys for braekfest. And than I'm going to run my bicycling up Rjiis's backside!
