The US trade with China they trade with Viatnam and what is the real truth they dont trade with Cuba the US is waiting for the Castros to die because that would be more easy for the US than making a huge changes of failed 50 year old blockade but what is the real reason the US wont make changes or protect Alan back in the 60s the US tryed several times to kill castro the CIA had spy in Cuba all the time I think the US began the conflict with Cuba and the US reason why because the US wont accept defeat ever especially ro a socialist party

The issue of "communism" was but a cover for such an invasion. Look at the butcher dictators we supported in the region that resisted communism and the truth of such is obvious. Human rights are only a major concern when U.S. business interests are in danger.

jpl - You failed to address the article of focus on Alan Gross. This case is a major roadblock to the Obama administration and those in the U.S. Congress who want to move forward toward a policy of constructive engagement with Cuba! The politics of this is complicated. It also involves the Cuban Five being held now in 4 U.S. federal prisons.
The letter in the article attacks the Cuban government while, at the same time, pleading for Alan's relaease. Big mistake. 1. The Cuban government does not deal well with such issues when they are taken to the media. 2. Insults never work with the Cubans!
Alan's first lawyer tried both these and is no longer his lawyer.
In a conversation with Wayne Smith I encouraged him to make contact with Alan's new law team. Wayne has dealt with the Cubans for over 50 years and knows how to approach them.
Now we see Alan going after those in the U.S. who bear some responsibilty for his plight - a great 1st step in seeking his release.
