In a shocking display of unsportsmanship, Sri Lanka spinner Suraj Randiv bowled a deliberate no-ball to leave Virender Sehwag stranded on 99 in a cricket tri-series match here tonight.

The scores were tied at 170 and Sehwag was just one short of his 13th One Day hundred when Randiv, who has not bowled a no ball in the Test or ODI series this season, bowled a no ball which was hit by the swashbuckling opener for a six. The six however did not count because the no ball amounted to India's winning run.

Without realising that, Sehwag raised his arms in the air in celebration only to be told that the score board would show him not out at 99.

India comprehensively won the match comfortably by six wickets but the conduct of the Sri Lankan team caused upset in the Indian camp.

Minutes later, a livid Sehwag told journalists that Sri Lanka has a record of doing such things and he pointed out that they had left Sachin Tendulkar stranded at 99 with similar tactics in Cuttack.

Sehwag said that Randiv had not bowled a single no ball earlier and asked "How can he bowl one at this point."

"It was clear that the Lankan team did not want him to get his 100," the opener said.

Sri Lankan captain Kumara Sangakkara appeared to take the episode lightly but later on said he would talk to Randiv.

"He is not that kind of a cricketer. If some members of the team have coaxed him I will take it up strongly," he said.

"This is not the spirit of cricket," he acknowledged.

Former India Captain Sourav Ganguly speaking to a TV channel said that this was not the first time Sri Lanka had done such a thing.

They had done the same to him in a Test match at Kandy in 2002 where he was left stranded on 98, he said.

"That happens in Cricket. Bowlers try to do that when batsmen are on 99. They try to bowl wides or no balls. They do not want cricketers to score century. But that is fair enough," Sehwag said.

"I think he (Randiv) has done it deliberately," he added.

It is not cheating, just not in the spirit of the game.

A bit like the Indian spectators rioting in Calcutta , to get the match abandoned , when India were about to lose to SL in the 96 world cup.

It was done by the spectators , but here the person involved is a professional cricketer.
Shame on Sri Lankan Cricketers , start yelling like babies when on the verge of defeat.

Pakistanis are comparatively much better sportsperson , you deserve something similar to lahore attack during next trip to India

You cannot be serious! All because Sehwag was perfectly legally not allowed to get to his century? LOL!

I would say overall SL has always played the game in the right spirit compared to India and certainly to pakistan

No , Sri Lanka is a team of cheats.
Muttiah Murlaitharan= Javelin Thrower

Ajantha Mendis = Carrom board Player

Malinga = Greatest Chucker in the history of game

where are the true cricketers? all half bred orthodox cheats

ICC was pressurized to agree with the 15 degress arm bend rule just to allow Murali become the highest wicket taker .
This is not the first time lankans have done anything like this , 2 years ago Great Tendulkar was left stranded on 96 when malinga chucked a very big wide , and in 2002 Ganguly was left stranded on 98 in a test match.

The biggest culprit behind all these cheaps acts is sangakkara , he asked randiv to bowl the no ball and is now blaming him.

Even though Pakistanis are the biggest enemies of India both on and off the field , but they never stoop to such low levels due to jealousy. They fight like real men , and dont be jealous weenies

Oh please.
get off your high horse indians. at least we don't try to claim bump catches or cheat to try and change the whole result:

Virender Sehwag earned the dubious distinction during the last day’s play at the Eden Gardens on Thursday for deliberately kicking the ball away over the ropes, with the intention of keeping Hashim Amla him on strike.

It was the fifth ball of Sachin Tendulkar’s over, the South African innings’ 130th , when Amla smacked a square off a short-pitched delivery. The ball raced away towards the fence but stopped just short of the boundary line. Sehwag intentionally kicked it over to deny opportunity to Amla to change ends. South Africa were on 284 for 9 at that time with Amla and No 11 Morne Morkel at the crease.
The umpires decided to award South Africa four penalty runs and also awarded a run to Amla for crossing over. The penalty, termed as ‘willful illegal act of fielder’— the first such instance in Test cricket in India—- is covered under Law 19.6 of the Laws of Cricket, the ICC’s manual. BCCI statistician Dinar Gupte, when asked to recollect previous instances of such penalty for willful illegal act of a fielder by an Indian cricketer in Tests, said that there’s no such instance.

bloody cheaters. even if randiv did it on purpose it didn't affect the game, unlike what fatboy sehwag tried to pull there.

If you knew anything about cricket, you'd know that in 2002 Malinga had not perfected his style. He bowled fuckloads of No Balls and Wides.

If I remember it was India who were punished because Harbijan Singh racially abused an Aussie player.

Wow that sounds like great sportsmanship - what a great example to set to the world.

Cock!
