I agree. While my husband was laid off and we needed health insurance for our child, we made too much to qualify for Medi-Cal and not enough to pay for private insurance out of pocket. Healthy Families was a saving grace for us, we were able to provide our son with quality care if needed, and at fee we could pay comfortably each month. If anything, this program needs to remain as at least citizens who need the services are contributing per month. Medi-Cal is just straight taxpayers $.

You would think CA would cut back on Medi-Cal and welfare instead.

And just think, under the Obama Health Care Proposal everyone will be forcibly covered. I strongly suggest everyone go to the Library Of Congress and download the proposed bill, AAHCA-Billtext071409.PDF
There is some very disturbing play on words in it.

While I won't be as blunt at Woodland I would have to agree. The article doesn't mention that they ever had insurance. I think it is VERY irresponsible to have children while making minimum wage. Why would you have children if you can't support them? There is something called "personal responsibility".

Bella, I understand your situation. You are the people who the system should assist. I don't view your situation as a handout but more of an assist. People who have never had insurance and are now using the system are receiving handouts. Unacceptable.
