N.Y. group backs wine sales in grocery stores
Allowing wine sales in grocery stores would create more than 6,000 jobs and raise hundreds of millions of dollars without new taxes, according to a study released Thursday by a coalition pushing for the change in the state's liquor law.

It may create some jobs but how many businesses will go under? I don't think the supermarket chains deserve to make more profits at the expense of small business owners. I don't think it is good for society.

I've no seen any proof that any liquor store will close simply because wine can also be sold in food stores. Only a few people say they will. Words are cheap.
The legislation includes allowing liquor stores to sell many other, high mark-up foods.
But if wine could be sold in food stores all taxpayers would benefit from the additional, annual revenue that would flow to the state – without raising current taxes. The services people need must be funded. And all New Yorkers would benefit from thousands of new jobs created by this opened market of selling wine in food stores.
