Nation briefs: Cheney, Gonzales indicted in prison case

A Texas judge has set a Friday arraignment for Vice President Dick Cheney, former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and others named in indictments accusing them of responsibility for prisoner abuse in a federal detention center. Cheney, Gonzales and the others will not be arrested, and do not need to appear in person, Presiding Judge Manuel Banales said.

Do you actually believe this. If this case was in actuality other than fraudulently inerrant, there would be validity to your argument. Think about this...if something was to came of this, that every politician, state or local person holding any office would be subject to frivolous accusation or suit contending that irregularities superseded normal institutional law. The problem is that democratic leaning individuals as yourself aren't intelligent enough for comprehending ramifications of actions of persons like this. I think it might have slipped your mind that the Clinton impeachment was driven by Republicans. In addition, you imply this charge is frivolous. The courts make that decision before charging and arraigning a defendent. In the end it may be that you are right and Cheney is innocent, but how would you know that without hearing the evidence underlying the charge?

People who are sympathetic to these terrorist prisoners need to realize that they don't care. They don't care if you think they should be treated like kings while in prison. They don't care if you are against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. They hate you and think you deserve to die just as much as they hate the soldiers over there. Their hate is as strong for you as it is for any non muslim. If they had their way they would slit your throat just as fast as they would anyone else's. They aren't going to ask you if you are sympathetic towards their treatment in prison. They are going to see you as a non muslim who needs to die. They hate you and you will never change that. 10 billion dollars a month of our taxes are spent on Iraq. America needs those dollars now to rebuild our economy. Saving a negligible amount by ignoring potential criminal acts by high level officials undercuts the principles on which our country was founded. These people desrve the same form of justice that any American would receive, not a kind of royal treatment because of their so called status.

Arraigned for, "... Responsibility for prisoner abuse in a federal detention center.", are you kidding me?!! Of cource they should have to appear! This goes one of three ways: 1)they'll each send representatives to the hearing who are under orders not to answer questions inconclusively or skirt the issue of any potentially damaging question. or 2)they'll send a representative who is actually too incompitent to answer questions. or 3)they'll send pounds and pounds of documents that go nowhere and take too long to go through for anyone to care what the findings were anyway. It's the same every time a high level official or corporate ceo are arrighned on these types of issues. I mean, have you watched these things on television. Few people ask hard questions and even the soft ones are not answered. What a joke the laws of this country have become. Since when is prisoner abuse in a Fed. detention center not that big a deal? If JOE BLOW gets cought stealing a $1,000 T.V. he gets slapped with a felony.
