So it was just general teenage stupidity that made them want to speed down a dirt/gravel road that was halfway flooded!

Why are you acting like they deserved it & have to be so rude & hurtful?? As if they purposely drove on ice & meant for it to happen wanting to chance death. I hope karma comes back to you one day worse than this.

for the sake of the kids still alive, and could possibly go out and do the same thing next week, the connection needs to be drawn and someone needed to come out and say it. They should not have been driving fast enough on that road, in that weather, to go through a railing. Let it be a lesson to them to drive smarter.

All of you must really need to get a life! Do you only read topix and not the newspapers. The guard Rail was damaged and in need of repair before the accident. Where did you ever get that these kids were going fast or doing anything wrong? These were good kids so if you can not say anything with respect towards them then don't say or type anything at all.

I thought people were rude and insensitive about this accident (hopefully the teens around here learned a good lesson) until I talked to my grown kids who live out of state and they told me about the game the kids play out there. One said to me "I've done it, drunk" That gave me the chills. Secrets kill. There will never be proof one way or the other and the kids should be left in peace, but if others can see what CAN happen, I say get the game out in the open. See how fast you can go and get the car airborne is the game. Its also played on the backroads to Morris.

Yes the guard rail was reportedly not up to current standards.

But that doesn't mean it was hanging by a thread and exploded from the supports at the slightest touch.

They were probably speeding and/or not paying enough attention. A tragic mistake, no need to beat them up about it now.

No one is saying they deserved what they got, just simply let a lesson be learned for those who are still alive. Their deaths are very much a tragedy, but if we let this "game" stay hidden away from the public's knowledge, no one will make the connection and see how truly dangerous it is. It doesn't matter how good of a person you are, or how smart and promising of a young kid you may be, it only takes one lapse in judgement and another tragedy like this could happen.

The accident report has not yet been completed by the Sheriff's office, so we don't know how/why the accident occurred. However it happened, it did and we lost 4 beautiful teenagers who had their whole lives in front of them. All of the children were tested for toxicity and none of them had alcohol and/or drugs in their system. They were good kids, this accident was horrific and is devastating to the whole community of Wilmington, their families and friends. Our beloved granddaughter lives only in our hearts now... There will be no HS graduation, college, marriage, children. Micalah is a beautiful young women, on the outside and inside her soul was gentle, loving, kind, considerate; everything you could want in a child. May God bless you and keep you in his hands, our wonderful granddaughter.
