Not sure why we're still using phosphates in detergent. There's other stuff that's just as cheap and works as well.

Then why do we have to dodge the ban on phosphates by going out of state to get dish soap that works?
I'm not against reducing harmful chemicals, but I will not compromise on functionality. The "green" crowd has saddled us with quite enough "green" products that don't work. Enough is enough!

I personally think this is ridiculous. This is just another ploy to get more money. Where are the scientific studies that have proven phosphate dishwasher detergent is bad for our environment? I use it and it makes my dishes look great! Like UncleRice, I'm not against reducing harmful chemicals either, but I agree. Enough IS enough.

Get used to it. In Spokane, we've had a phosphate ban in effect for three years. The real estate industry is behind it; reducing phosphates in water enables more sprawl by keeping pollution inside the Clean Water Act regs.
Non-phosphate detergent works fine for laundry and dishes. Glasses are another matter, but it's a small price.
