Deadly intersection to get light Area where a double-fatal crash...

Aug 20, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Fredericksburg.com

The Virginia Department of Transportation started a review of the intersection of State Routes 218 and 205 after the deadly crash on May 6 and recently decided that a traffic light should be put up there.

You mean it's about time people started paying attention to their driving habits. That intersection is only as dangerous as others make it based on their driving habits. People don't look both ways, jump out thinking they have enough room....If you pay attention (which our society seems to have lost that aspect of driving) then it's not terrible. I see the light only benefiting 215 holdups in the afternoon. I don't like it because it will back up 205. You have plenty of visibility on both sides when turning off 215. If anything, it should be the red/yellow blinking lights, not a full on stop light. Just an opinion.

So the new business behind OLAs on 1st street is Sherry Snack Shack selling empanadas. Great new business in town. I wish her all the best!

I absolutely agree with the light being put at that intersection, it's going to save lives. A little back up in traffic is not going to hurt anything. Must be Dahlgren workers complaining, don't worry Facebook will still be on your computer at work to get on!

When someone runs the redlight on 205 and tbones a turning car and people die hopefully the light will come down.

You know I kept telling myself to just stay off this silly site because all it does is upset me , the fact of the matter is I lost the most wonderful man on may 6th because f that intersection and if you people cant except that that intersection is dangerous then I really don't know what to say till sadly it happens to one of your family members....
weather that light is there or not the traffic is backed up regardless...trust me I drive it all the time...my husband and I almost got into an accident not once but twice and that intersection it is a very dangerous road and I'm sorry that all you impatient people have to wait an extra 5 minutes to get where you gotta go..all I can say is at least you will be alive!

I am very careful at that intersection because of the speeds involved. I believe a traffic signal wouldn't hurt. We've seen way too many close calls there.

Really? A traffic light in the middle of no where?

This is not the cure to what is clearly a driver skill issue. Has anyone seen the new "hole" in the new guard rail? Anyone care to look for skid marks from use of brakes? If you did look you would have noticed there wasn't any. The driver clearly didn't use his/her brakes and launched off the road.

Again, I must reiterate that driving in VA has been the worst experience I have ever had with drivers ever, and I've lived all over the world.

I've never had a car enter my lane on a two lane road in Iceland where black ice is the "norm", nor have I had someone tailgate me so closely at night with no reason that I could not see thier car in my door review mirrors with the only intention to create hostility in Germany. So what the hell is the problem here?

The lack of driver skill/training and arrogance. Plain and simple.

Your kind of a dick about it, but your right.

Plus, a traffic light simply will not fix stupid, or correct already bad driving habits. I am constantly behind people who are chatting away on their cell phones or texting while at that intersection. They are special breed.

Can't believe how many times that guard-rail has been replaced lately. Are people really that stupid? It gets replaced and usually within 2-weeks it is hit again...

Proper care while driving, paying attention to the road and situation, and common sense is what is needed here. But until then, put up a light to help herd the sheep.

Thanks for telling Topix that bad driving ONLY happens in Virginia! Maybe you will leave now and go back to whatever hole in the ground you popped out of. The light needs to go up, Nobody cares what you think. It's going to save lives period. 100% for this Light.

If you know that intersection is dangerous, then it claims the life of your Grandfather, then you and your husband almost get into two accidents, why do you continue to drive down that road?

What an idiotic statement. Did you know that there are only two ways out of Colonial Beach and this is one of them. The intersection being discussed is the most direct route to the Dahlgren Naval base that employees many people from this area. What are you telling all of them, take a longer route, burn more fuel, and create more traffic on the other bad roads out of town. When the Bridge was under repair everyone complained about the alternate route ( Other way out of Town) which had several accidents. Put the light up and get use to it, end of story

That is a common sense approach instead of a costly solution that will eventually fail to perform because of human nature. Nothing idiotic about it.

I was the second car behind the truck that smashed into her Ford Ranger. She was not traveling on 205 the main road out of CB, she was stopped on 218. Idiotic statement in your opinion. I am stationed at Dahlgren and take 301 to 205. My life is worth the few extra minutes.

This is a direct quote "The fatal crash happened at 3 p.m. on May 6 when Graham pulled a Chevrolet out from Route 218 into the path of a westbound International box truck on Route 205."

This is called Failure to Yield... It was the fault of this driver. Now the same people who run the stop sign will now run red light and accidents will continue to happen.

. I have never seen someone run a red light it's called Failure to stop a a controlled traffic light intersection. I had to put this on here since you THINK you try to act like you no everything.
