I think that the whole bunch of them need to go and that includes the Town Attorney. The Town Council does not represent my views and the Town Attorney seems to like to get in the middle of the fight and take sides rather than giving her unbiased legal opinion.

Why can't the Mayor have an office? There is an empty one in the Town Building on Colonial Ave that he could have that wouldn't affect anyone at town hall. Public Works isn't using it anymore. Let him have one there.

Brandenstein VS Erard??? That`s like Michael Vick pairing a poodle with a pit bull! This guy is for real. The ALCU, Jesse Jackson, and the Rev. Al Sharpton should a descend upon Colonial Beach. Our duly elected Mayor has had is civil liberties and constitutional rights trampled on by our Council (who we know are idiots) and the attorney (who should be smarter!) It is such a shame that this town finally elected a Mayor with; (1) experience in politics,(2) education, and (3) a vision of what potential CB has. Then, our Council illegeally gangs up on him. Thus, resulting in the same old stagnant pitiful Colonial Beach! Mr. Mayor please know your constituents are behind you! Sue this place bankrupt, then we can finally desolve the town charter. Good luck my dear Andrea!

I agree. This is embarrasing! If his actions were out of bounds then settle it out of the public eye (media), but give him the respect as any town official, or anyone for that matter deserves. You may think it makes you look like hero's to "gang" up and make decisions such as this, but to a lot of us out here, removed from the "inner circle" it really makes you look unprofessional and ignorant. It's a true embarrasment to the town. Keep your inner circle problems out of the limelight and at least make us think your all in unity.

If Rummage is so smart then why doesn't he do it the right way, he for one should know better. What it appears he wants in Virginia is called a Mayor/Council Government where the Mayor has Administrative and Financial Responsibility and Accountability. What Colonial Beach currently has is call and Council/Manager Government where the Daily Operations is vested in the Town Manager. Mayor Wilder got his changed when he became Mayor of Richmond. Also Google Guy and Embarrasing at the meeting on the 25th Rummages Attorney's letter and Erard letter were passed out and you would have seen her's was on behalf of the Council Members because Rummages Attorny's letter was addressed to her and not the Council Members. It seems that Rummage whats to have the power but does not want the Accountability or Responsibility.

I have sat in on 3 of the Budget Worksession that Council has had and listening to Rummage talk, I'm not sure if he can even spell FINANCIAL much less be responsibile for the Town's Management. At every meeting he keeps bringing up there is @1.8 million in Reserves that the Town has ability to spend. Not 5 minutes later the CFO states there was @1.2 million in the checking account as of 5pm today. So even Rummage should catch on sooner or later that unless everything in the Bank is Reserves then the numbers are incorrect. Going back to his excuse for his house in Montross was the fact his wife did not beleive in investments in Stocks and Bonds, etc, well he has proven she is a lot smarter in not allowing him control. As always IMHO.

People here keep bring up that Rummage was duly elected....well guess what fokes so were the other 5 and if not mistaken all received more votes than Rummage. Only one not was Commbes who was appointed by all to include Rummage. All I can say is you get what you put in there. It probably will not be the last time you will wish you could do it all over again, hinesight is 20/20.

The mayor is one, that is one, member of council. He is not above them, he is equal to them. Why should he have an office in the town hall when all he does is get in the way of the day to day operations. The operations of the town is the responsibility of the Town Manager. They mayor is her to be the tie breaking vote on council and to set the agenda and conduct the council meetings....NOTHING MORE! As soon as the King realizes that the better off we will all be. You elected him....live with it for 3 more years!

Why would the Mayor have to make an excuse to anyone for owning a home in Montross or anywhere else? Geez!

CB is Stupid -- The Mayor can own a home in Montross but his main yes his MAIN residence is suppose to be Colonial Beach. DAH!!!!

As for a office -- The Mayor is just a figure head -- his job is cut ribbons and kiss babies and have the tie breaking vote. He doesn't need a office -- he harassed the employees when he was occupying one in Town Hall.

Yes, Pete Bone had a office but most of the time he was filling in as Town Manager.

The Mayor lives in Colonial Beach at Potomac Wharf. It is where he lives! Everyday!

The Town Attorney works for the Town Council as a whole, and she probably does not have to give an "unbiased" opinion. She listens to the demands (not requests, keep in mind) of the Council and acts or responds in the most appropriate fashion. She answers to the Council, and she is paid by the Council. If you were an axe murderer, your defense attorney has a legal responsibility to defend you. So that is all she is doing. By the way, she is very competent. She does not "engage" very often but she is more than capable, and had more than 20 years of experience with Virginia municipal law. And again she is doing what the Council (as a body, or as a whole) has asked. Don't blame her.....

the mayor want to be in Manage or be in complete control of all town bussiness. He is just a glorified councilman no one has taken that from him,he has a big ego and now as sad as it is wants to take legal action against the very Town he is suppose to be helping. If he files a law suite he will lose and cost the Town valuble time that could be used for better purposes ,not counting more embarasesment. He has been asked several times to work as a team but his answer was THIS MEANS WAR is this the kind of attitude we want from a Mayor?

I think that the Mayor has played his hand ust the way he wanted. According to the paper, a report is on Dean Atkins desk with assault charges for one council member for shoveing the Chief of police. I don't beleive the line of " I don't think that she knew who I was" is gonna fly!!! It is hard not to recognize a fully uniformed POLICE OFFICER!

ROFLMAO, and that's what everyone else is doing when they read about this in the paper. The Mayor is exercising his legal rights and was put in this situation by the council when they voted to deny him access to an office at town hall. If there is an employee complaint, it should have been handled by an EEO officer, as is all employee grievances. It appears our council members are unprofessional and unaware of or feeling above federal law. Enough already! This isn't your personal proving ground or your chance to be a big fish in a little pond, this is a real town with real issues that needs real problem solvers, not tabloid headline makers.
