Politicians find it easy to criticize public education. There selective amnesia allows them to forget that they have made public education what it is today. They created the “No Child Left Behind Law” and then forgot to vote to approve proper funding. But still hold the public education system accountable for meeting those standards. In Michigan, the public schools have been on track to meet those goals. The same goals that our elected officials in Lansing set for up using the MEAP as proof that we are meeting the “NO Child Left Behind” law. Now they say we set the bar to low so we need to raise the bar. They have forgotten that we will loose Federal funding if we do not meet those standards. So Mr. Snyder’s plan for raising the bar may actually hurt Michigan even more.
Politicians also like to compare us academically, using the National Standards Test. They have also forgotten that each state has there own standards. And most DO NOT align with the National Standards. Michigan has the MEAP, and they do not align with the National Standards. So our students are not being compared equally.(Apples to Apples) So the Politicians who have told the teachers what they need to teach, grade by grade, then say we are doing a poor job preparing them for a National Standards Test. Why yes we have, because we have been doing what they told us we had to do. Get them ready to pass the MEAP.

One last thought, the United States accepts all children regardless of their background. The public school system is required to teach these students as if they have always been American citizens. The public school system also is required to accept All children and provide them with an adequate education. And we do. Most countries do not have as many immigrants as we do. They also have special schools that meet the needs of special education students. They also teach to the National Standards. And as the Post wrote in an article last year, most countries hand-pick the students that will represent them on the National Test. We, America, do not. So before you decide to back this new education reform, make sure it realigns the standards to meet the National Standards and get rid of the MEAP. But is that what the Politicians want? Because then what would they have to complain about and run for reelection on.

Thank you for getting the legal papers together to begin the process to rid Michigan of this dictator in our capitol. We will collect signatures once it is official. Every American registered voter in Michigan should do the same.
