Kudos to Pam Byrnes.

It's time for marriage equality and fairness in America.

As a Justice of the Peace I will be officiating at the marriages of loving couples from CA, VA, NY, DC, and LA who are coming to CT this summer to wed because they aren't allowed to marry in their own home states yet..

Kudos to CT, New England and Iowa.

Good for Rep. Byrnes for speaking out. I have doubts that the legislature has the 2/3rds votes, but speaking out against legislation like this is an important first step. And new polling has suggested that Michigans may be willing to overturn the ban.

But it is kind of funny. Back in November, the anti-gays thought that they had us on the run. Now six months later and we have Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine under our belt. Ouch, that's gotta hurt!

"For our children's sake, Michigan voters remain firmly committed to preserving the institution of marriage between one man and one woman."

Your mean for the children of HETEROSEXUAL parent's sake. As a child of gay parents, it PAINS me to see the blatant bigotry and HATE coming from those "supposed" protectors of children. Where is the continued outrage about molestic priests? Where is the outrage for the thousands upon thousands of children being raised by the government and NOT a family?? WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE THAT OUT COUNTRY NO LONGER PROTECTS ALL AND OUT EQUAL PROTECTION IS A PIECE OF WORTHLESS SH*T. You people again gay marriage are horrible, closeted prejudiced hate mongers who tuck their tails between their legs and blame religion as justification. STOP BLAMAING RELIGION FOR HATE. YOU AND YOU ALONE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS/OPINIONS.

The American Family Association, like Focus on the Family and other similar groups, exist primarily to impose their religious beliefs on other people who have different beliefs.

How different is this then those who claimed slavery was justified by the bible.

How different is this then the church which gave the world the hatred of the Jews. A hatred hitler leveraged in his poisoned society to gain total control and give us WWII.

And last but not least by any means, how different is this then the lunatics who believed they had the right to murder 3000 Americans on 9/11, justified by their religion.

And while we lost 3000 innocent people on 9/11, lets remember that every year we lose 3000 gay kids to suicide. Why - because they live in a homophobic society where the baseline religious message - "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is totally ignored by people who think they speak for God.

Hey AP! Why did you give some much print space to Gary Glenn of AFA of MI? He's only in the fight to enrich himself by preying on old prejudices. And why did your editor allow quotes around 'rights' as in the spoken quote by Mr. Glenn of "homosexual 'rights' "? He may want to denigrate the claim of equality, but your editors shouldn't let him get away with "innuendo-by-quotation-ma rk. Update your style manual or fire the story's editor.

The Definition of Marriage is not "between one man and one woman, that is the Extensional definition. The Definition of Marriage is "a social, religious, spiritual, emotional and/or legal union of individuals that creates kinship.."

Since when is a civil right, radical? No wunder there are no jobs in Michigan. All of the smart people have left. Just think, once all the minorities are run out of Michigan because of the recession, and sent back to where they belong, there will be no one else to blame. I guess you can always turn on the Dutch, they're kinda dark and kinda Mexican lookin.

I left Michigan (my home state) because of the 2004 Anti-Human-Rights State Constitutional amendment. I have a master's degree from an Ivy League school so I'm not totally dumb and the heartbreak of the 2004 election taught me that the people of MI -- outstate ones, at least -- are as dumb as the farm animals they raise. I hope they're happy now that everyone of any value has left and their state is the laughing stock of the world. SHAME on you, MI. F*ck you.

It is so sad that the so called values groups still rely on the unproven theory that children brought up in same sex couple homes are worse off than those children brought up in a home with a male and female partnership (mom and dad). Every recognized medical authority and association condemns this theory, and says both families are just a nurturing and stable for children. Shame on these anti-gay bigots for spreading hate filled messages.

It is just a matter of time that discrimination of gays is recognized as pure DISCRIMINATION. Laws against women voting were finally eliminated. The discrimination against blacks, non-English speakers is ongoing. We won't admit discrimination in public but it is there just the same.
Discrimination goes both ways.
Gay money is still green and has and will make a difference in businesses.

For children's sake? Ha, that's as flimsy an excuse as terrorist killing others in the name of God. People like to use children or God as a shield to mask their own bigotry and excuse their behavior, as doing it for a "just" cause. People should step up and be more honest about their feelings and intentions. The right wing say that the gays have an agenda, but the gays are the only ones being honest and upfront about what they want and why they want it. The right wing is the one masking themselves by saying things like they're doing this for children and for marriage. Ha, what a joke. They are doing it because the gays make them uncomfortable and they're afraid if it is legal for homosexuals to marry than maybe they're children will decide that they are gay and that that is ok, and that they don't have to be forced into a closet. Let's call a duck a duck here. I could stomach someone's opposing opinion if they could AT least just be honest about what it truly is.

I am So happy to read that there are so many other people that believe that this is just a basic civil right that has been denied to so many people. I do not understand how someone can even justify in their own mind voting on someone elses civil RIGHTS. When the majority votes on the rights of the minority then they are normally misinformed and do not see how it affect them, if it affects them. Hopefully this will pass without too much of a fight as a sign that there is change in the world, even if it is a ploy to get people to come back or move to Michigan. I can't wait for the day when every state has this basic right.

Here is a perfect example of the right wing Christians fighting for the protection of children. Some friends of mine, a married lesbian couple, rather than have their own children, decided to help out the 50,000 kids without homes in our state and adopt a 2-yr-old and 5-yr-old sisters. Their kooky right wing Christian "friend" decided that they were unfit to raise children, so made up a bunch of lies and conspired with another "Christian" in the foster care system to take the children away from the loving couple, and to put them in the care of this unemployed, single mom, "Christian" home. While the kids were in this woman's care, she taught them that Jesus said that it was wrong for a black man to marry a white woman and that interacial relationships were wrong. Needless to say, mothers at the school who already knew she was unfit as a mother of her own child, and abusing the two foster kids, ratted on her, and the kids were returned to the lesbian couple after they had to pay $10,000 in lawyers fees to prove that the "Christian" woman made it all up. It's a good thing these decent minded "Christians" are thinking in the best interest of the children and trying to warn them from the consequences of gay and interacial marriage.

Actually, the people of Michigan spoke for themselves when they voted it down 59-41. Nice try, though - keep dreaming.

If not now, when? Too bad our "fierce advocate" is AWOL since we gave him our votes.

Good luck, Michigan.
