Many people coming to live in PA from MD are or will be in for sticker shock as a lot are not told about the school taxes in PA, property taxes they are told about. They don't collect separate school taxes in MD. It has surprised a lot of people who have moved here, but it is to late they have already bought the house when they get that first school tax bill.

We've been here more than 15 years, and I still don't understand why we get 2 tax bills a year and not 1. BUT, our taxes on 9 acres is still cheaper than what I paid for 1/3 acre in Fairfax or he paid for 1/2 acre in PG County.

DUH, Commissioner Bob!!

"Franklin County Commissioner Robert Ziobrowski said the impact of more Maryland jobs on Franklin County will be negative. Residential development does not pay its way and costs more in services than either agricultural or commercial use of land.

"The end result: Our school taxes are going to go up," he said.

Maryland has found that income taxes from the high salaries will more than offset the additional services for the households, according to Lisa A. Swoboda, deputy director of the Maryland Office of Military & Federal Affairs."

Atleast we had a couple months of slower growth. Are they going to fill up all of the empty houses now or build new ones?

I believe Lisa Swoboda is far out in front of Commissioner Ziobrowski when it comes to understanding growth and taxes. It seems that Commissioner Z. simply likes to talk regardless of content or impact.

It's interesting; I've read newspapers from Chester, Lancaster, York, and Adams Counties and all report that the majority of these as yet unhired Federal employees will be living in their county. It would appear that it will be a real buyers market when each of these areas vie for the new workers.

Check this study http://twp.antrim.pa.us/documents/Land%20Use%...
I believe this will confirm Commissioner Ziobrowski's statement. Residences use more community services than they contribute via taxes.
ok then
