While we are asking questions...WHY, as a Wasatch County Tax payer, did you feel the need to try and make this a Summit County Issue? What has put you under the impression that the WCFD Chief is making a salary in the top 10th percentile? Try more along the lines of median range, or 75% of all chiefs. The WCFD Chief doesn't even make what Park City fire captains, or other big cities make. Think your over taxed? Why is "over-padding" a budget such an issue? Heaven forbid you prepare for the future. Overpaid secretary? Try, Administrative assistant that is also the treasurer for the JSSD and a volunteer firefighter. That is 3 salaries in one! Turns out to about $11 an hour. I don't really think thats overdoing it! Also, EMS in Wasatch county is an entirely seperate entity. The part-time firefighter DO NOT respond on anything medical unless it is an injury accident that needs extrication/heavy rescue. The full time firefighters respond to EMS calls in their area, and down in the valley if requested by the crews in town if they are all out and busy. Why do you need all those part-time fireman? Have you ever seen a house up in flames? Try to do it alone. Why do you need full-time firefighters? Try letting your house catch on fire and wait 20 minutes from the Heber firemen to get there to put on the first drop of water, then ask that question again. Why are the part-time firefighters paid that $8,400 annually (without additional benefits)? You do their job and tell me you will do it for free. To me, you sound like a greedy, cynical jerk. I don't know what you do for a living, but I hope that one day someone decides you aren't so important and you have to struggle to keep your job against people that act such as you. If you can't afford to live in Deer Mountain or any other development in the Jordanelle Basin, perhaps you should leave? I for one, am glad to have the PCFD, as you should be to have your WCFD. Stop being such a pesimist and be thankful you have someone willing to work for a pitiful $8,400 annually to save a stranger's home, no less someone who makes it known to the public that they are obviously completely ungrateful, by continually defimating their local service members and trying to look smart and tough in the local papers.
