I would like to know the results of children of parents who have dealt with Mary Haven Youth Center of Warren County and those who are still dealing with them..I truly believe this program is not set up to help the children deal with issues at hand in order prosper into fine young men..to help them deal with the problems that got them put there in the first place. I think it is more of a scam to get money from the parents knowing the hardship that is puts on them financially and emotionally. Certain staff members sure don't help by coming off with negativity in order to make sure they dont excel. There job is to help by encouraging the positive side to come out more in order to help them make it thru all levels. This is just a start of my concerns with this facility. I am sure and know for a fact I am not the only parent that has real concerns with this program. Feel free to contact me at friendly45036@yahoo.com

I was in MHYC for 8 months.... all they wanted to teach you was how your bad actions affected everyone around you.... it took me, on my own, two years after my release, to realize that I needed to focus on myself to get better and to make positive decisions, to learn that my negative actions affected ME. the staff is a joke, some did not graduate high school and enjoyed telling of their teen lives breaking the law not getting caught, they were inspiration b/c they were terrible.

I was in Mary Haven for a year and a half back in 2001-2002. IF it weren for that place and the counseling i recieed in there as well as the support i woul not be where i am today. Of course i madet difficult because i had a problem with authority but what teenager doesnt??? But it took for me to be be not threatned but demanded to do well or i was going to be sent to DYS a kids prison in Chilicothie,OH. and that was from a judge. Now once i started acting my age the time flew by and i finished the program... The place will only work if the person who is in there lets it work, its not the parents fault nor the staffs... The staff there is amazing may seem harsh at times but they are not there to be buddies. I am very thankful for that place and lan on working there soetime...

I was in Mary Haven Youth Center for 9 months. It was the 9 months that ultimately changed my life forever. I see comments above from "vanhoosier" saying that he was there "7 times" that is entirely inaccurate. A person cannot be put into Mary Haven more than once, this is not how the program works. Mary Haven is the kind of program that really is aimed at helping rather than punishing, however being there is a punishment by law. I remember my stay there like it was yesterday, and I still remember every staff member who helped me. I can honestly say it held me accountable for every action I made. It teaches you manners, it teaches one to take the initiative in life, it teaches you how to be a decent young man/woman. I was so inspired by the staff that I now have a 4 year degree in Criminal Justice with a focus on Juvenile Justice and have decided to dedicate my life to trying to help trouble teens in the same way I got helped. I was resistant and tried to fake the level system at first but the staff quickly seen right through my act. This was the place that I learned "you only get out of the program, what you put into it". I would recommend more centers like this instead of harsher places such as DYS (Detention Youth Center). Mary Haven literally changed my life in a way that nothing else could have. No matter how many times I said "I JUST WANNA LEAVE THIS PLACE", I am a better person because of it. I just wish that the staff could truly see how much of heroes they really are. If you have a child that has been sent here, be thankful, you will see what I mean when your child completes the program.

so my friend Tim has been put in JDC and Mary Haven mannnyy times, yes you can go there more than once. He went there for the use of drugs, he was 12 when it started, he's 15 now and still doing it. I'm gonna agree on Peggy's comment. they obviously don't do a great job.

Mary Haven is a joke if the public could see what goes on day to day in Mary Haven they would laugh the staff is nothing more then bums they picked up from the side of the road they have no training a real youth center would have trained staff members i don't even know what the point of it is you go to drug class two times a week then the rest of the time is school and bullshit. Mary haven is nothing more then a jail were you get to be out of your cell more. they say they help they do nothing except make everything worse.

I worked at Mary haven as a teacher. I was employed by the local school district. I was repeatedly disrespected by staff and I have a masters degree which very few have more than a high school diploma. I was set up to be fired because I was not liked. I ultimately resigned and went to work for another district. The program does not help youth. It breeds more criminal behavior.

I was in Mary Haven when I was 17 until I was 18, why did it take me that long to get out? Because the program wasn't designed to help teens, it was designed to put away those who were deemed unruly ( sort of like the detention center but harder and stricter ). The staff was horrible except two people Miss Amy and the counselor at the time, Lori. There was even a perv male staff member who liked to watch us females ( this is back when MH was co-ed ) when we played at the pool table. I agree with you that this program ( if you can call it that ) is set up to take the parents money and give them false hope that their child can be helped and made back into the sweet kid they used to be.

Also I forgot to add, they treat everyone like they are there for a drug problem! I had to sit in NA meetings and drug classes and I had never even smoked pot, let alone done any hard core drugs. Not everything a "child" is going thru is because of drugs!
