I get a disability payment from vA for less than 900.00 a month with a grandchild. I got too much money to get food stamps. I'm in public housing and lost my home. Makes me really feel good about the rich and who's in need. The gov and big business should part company. I went under, why can't a business that been mismanaged go under.

Don't know about where you live, but here (a backwater little hick town in Indiana) we have this place called a library. They have the internet there for FREE! I know it's hard to believe, but it's true! And FYI, my hubby has worked non-stop for 22 years for one company. He has literally given blood, sweat, and years of his life to this place but, guess what, they recently decided to close the doors. In the next few months the 2+ decades of dedication he's shown will mean nothing. You can bet your last dollar that he will rely on unemployment for a while. And, if we're eligible even food stamps. He's worked for it and considering the way his company is abandoning their employees, I feel absolutely no remorse for possibly needing and taking a little help from state and/or govt. programs that were put in place for this very reason! I sincerely hope that you never find yourself in the position of knowing the job you have dedicated 20 some-odd years of your life to is going to close its doors in your face. If you do, however, I hope you remember this post of yours. Go on and go out and just grab yourself another job. I mean, they're so plentiful these days, right? Especially when you have bills to pay and family to care for. Yeah, that Taco Bell job will certainly be enough to make the mortgage payment and the car payment and the utilities and whatever credit card payments you might have. And of course the food will be no problem on top of all that.
So, we've worked for 22 years non-stop. I reckon we have a right to use the services we paid for during that time. And so does anyone else who needs them. Do they get abused? Absolutely. Do I think everyone who needs unemployment or food stamps is a lazy bum? Absolutely NOT!

I have great news for you people...Obama is going to fix everything!!! He and Pelousy are going to put you all in my neighborhood, turn my city in to a ghetto, and make me pay for it...just like I pay for you to live now! Get off of these sights and look for employment! If you did your due diligence for 22 years, and lived within your means, I would not be putting food on your table! Let me guess....you lived for his "pension", now the company is going out of business, meaning that there is no money to pay people (not the "company don't care" clause that you welfare people like to play), so there is no money for you because you bought a $250K house with no money down and got a bad mortgage deal on it, going to lose the house, and need bailout money to keep you afloat...it's a never ending circle...the best welfare reform is....you guessed it....NOT HAVING WELFARE AND MAKING PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEMSELVES!!!

Don't sit there and try to lecture me on our supposed lack of "due diligence." You don't know me, my husband, or our financial situation.(Which I assure you is likely far better than your own.) I simply choose to argue with "dump welfare" zealots that make asinine generalizations. No, everyone who is on welfare or unemployment is NOT a lazy bum. Are some of them? Of course they are. There are scam artists everywhere. But to sit there and make idiotic statements like, "If you did your due diligence for 22 years, and lived within your means, I would not be putting food on your table!" just proves that you've been fortunate enough to never be put in a position to need help. I hope you never are. You might get just as much sympathy and understanding as you've dished out here.

"are going to put you all in my neighborhood, turn my city in to a ghetto, and make me pay for it...just like I pay for you to live now!"

Who the hell are you? Do you ever think that not everyone on assistance CAN work? I'm severely disabled because of a genetic condition I didn't know I had that was aggravated by my job. I started working the DAY I turned 16 - worked through college even. You think those of us who can't work WANT to be in the positions we're in?

I'm not on welfare - but I'll be damned if I won't use the temporary food stamps I've finally gotten after 3.5 years of not working or taking a single cent from the govt. And you can be sure that when I'm approved, I'll be grateful for the disability payments I receive that I WORKED for for 18 years!

My payments are based on what *I* paid in - so don't give me crap about me turning your happy little neighborhood into a ghetto - you probably don't even know what neighbors you have that might be on assistance. It's not like we wave it around or flaunt it.

It takes nerve to sit here and judge when you don't know what I, or anyone else here has been through - and like the other person said - I pray that if you ever find yourself in the same situation some of us are in - that you remember your nasty words!

I bet your ignorant ass aint even old enough to understand things totally in this world..Bet you do things that are not legal to help you deal with the things in the real world..When you get in a spot to where you wish someone would help you out so many are gonna laugh at you and point..Not your place to decide who needs the help and who don't..your most likely just another specimen in the sperm bucket..

I do not believe foodstamps should be allowed to purchase soda and sugary drinks. I have to pay tax if I purchase soda so it is not a food therefore foodstamps should not purchase it. I do not drink soda, get foodstamps, and I eat healthy food. I notice people with foodstamps at the grocery usually fat and many times riding scooters. If the stamps had more regs. not less maybe those people would be in better shape healthier, and maybe employable.

i totally understand what you are saying, but as a foodstamp reciever myself, i do not buy all that junk, and it may come as a suprise, i am not FAT. i do work, just as much as anyone else. i work more than 40 hrs a week . i have three children, and i am divorced from a MAN that does not pay his child support, so yes, i am going to take full advantage of the taxes i am ALSO paying, and get some help to feed my children, not everyone who recieves assistance is fat and lazy, some of us actually give back to the community, and try. its people like you guys on this forum that make me sick. hopefully you will never have to be on assistance. i know some people DO abuse it , and yes it pisses me off too, but dont judge people just because they are getting help... not everyone is taking it for granted.
