'I will never be the same'

Full story: The Morning Call

A former teacher who took months to ''brainwash'' a student to make her a sexual tool was sentenced to 15 to 30 years in prison Friday by a Northampton County judge who said it was the worst case of abuse she's ...

It is a parent's responsibility to protect a child...What was this young girl doing out until 4am with an older woman on any night of the week, let alone a school night? What were her parents thinking? I know the poor girl didn't ask for any of this to happen, but you just have to wonder why her parents didn't find this inappropriate. And now they want to sue the school district?? That doesn't make sense to me.
Thanks

For saving me the time to type the above. Screw the family and lawyer. Pray for the girl.

I too understand that the young girl did not ask for this to happen to her nor deserve it; however at 12 years old you know right from wrong and what is inappropriate behavior. This girl let this happen to her over a 6 month span come on now. I believe the sentence is a little harsh murders get less time than her. I also want to know where were her parents during all of this; I know if my 12 year old daughter got a cell phone as a gift from a teacher there would be big problems. It's funny now they want to be "good parents". They probably knew this was going on and now they are trying to cash in at the own daugters expence. It's all so sad.

They should file charges against the parents for child neglect for allowing the kid to be out until 4 a.m. The parents are as much to blame as the teacher.

What were these parents thinking? Allowing a girl to go into ANOTHER state with adult teacher or not OVERNIGHT?? This is NOT the 1950's, didn't these parents learn anything by simply watching TV, they do not even need to know whow to read to see what is going on in the world. Leave parenting to the teacher and then sue the school district when things go wrong,I agree look into the parents background and see what pops up. I feel bad for the girl, and I don't wish this tragedy on anyone. Parents need to get a clue and hopefully someone else's child will not be hurt.

First, she isn't 12. She is now 15 and was 14 at the time. Second, 90% of what her and her parents claim happened is lies. The teacher is wrong for what she did, but it was started by the student who had an obsession and her parents who are witless losers who were about to get divorced before all this happened. Now they are money hungry and after the school district. Teacher should be serving a much shorter sentence. The judge proved herself a big fool.

Also, the father had a thing for the teacher at teh same time, and I guess this added fuel to teh mothers fire. Thats right, you, Joe public, and the judge don't know the full story.

It's a tragedy what's happened to this girl, but now the parents want to blame the school district. THESE PARENTS ARE MORONS! How about we, as a society, start taking responsibility for our own actions (or inactions in this parent's case) and STOP BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE. If the school district gets sued, they should counter-sue the parents for being noncomplacent torwards their daughter and allowing her to get into this mess in the first place. It's sickening to me that no one wants to take responsibility for anything anymore and instead are always looking to blame someone else.

I was wondering if you would be back in here....I remember when she pled guilty you were in here defending her. Doesn;t sound to me, based on her own statements in court, that she didn;t do it. Regardless if the 12 year old had a "thing" for her, a 12 year old is not mature enough to really know what is going on. This predator manipulated her..plain and simple. Hope she does all 30 years.

Please stop this insanity! A sick, criminal teacher has nothing to do with obama or the election. Only one person is to blame, and that is keri ann brekne, the convicted child molester. Do NOT defame a person who has nothing to do with this situation. Comments like yours are totally disrespectful, regardless of what party you want to see in office.

your words are groundless, cruel lies. money is not the point in this case. the point is to protect all our children from an incident like this every happening again. 14 is young. the girl was chased, threatened and abused. there are no excuses. slandering a loving couple and their family is fruitless and disgusting.

you seem to have a vocabulary problem. "noncomplacent" (your word) means they DID take action!!!!! you meant to say they were complacent which is truly wrong!!!!! they did take action, though you were clearly trying to say the opposite.

a lot of underage girls don't want to date UNDERAGE BOYS.

this underage skank probably had the hots for an OLDER...person; can imagine this little skank thinking she was so adult herself.

i bet the underage skank liked joking to the teacher how the boys her age were so immature.

even in 1940s, shirly temple and cary grant in a movie about a girl having hots for a teacher, though in those times it was more innocent.

I think most of the posters on this story is 18 years old or younger. This "teacher" was supposed to have been a trusted person in the lives of kids. This "teacher" groomed a 12 year old girl for so long that the girl just accepted what this "teacher" said and did as true. This "teacher" is a predator and thankfully she will never be in a classroom again. Grow up people, I hope you never have to be afraid for your child's well being in a school environment.

Gee, just imagine the fun posters would be having if this was a story about a homosexual Catholic priest, and not a lesbian teacher, who "groomed" a 12-year-old student...

gee, just imagine if this was a story about a sleazy stripper accusing teenage boys at duke university of rape, with the media regarding the sleazy stripper as the virgin mary.

The phone was hidden!!!!! They were always aware and concerned for their child's whereabout. You need to study up on brainwashing, read the transcripts of the hearings and not judge the parents, who could not work for months, as they had to watch their daughter 24/7 when the case first broke. They feared for her life! And they have had to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on a security system for their home (Brekne was out on bail for months and they all feared she would abduct one of their children!), plus there are so many out of pocket expenses for doctors, therapists, lawyers, etc. They are generous, upstanding members of this community, not people looking to make money on their child's suffering. I can only hope you are speaking from ingorance and are not as mean as you sound. Unless you know the facts, attended the hearings, have access to the reports submitted to the court, please do not question the motivation of the family.
