Abstinence-only "education" has proven to be a failure. Our kids deserve to know about contraception and safe-sex practices.

I wouldn't call it a failure anymore than I would call sex education a failure because kids still get pregnant and STDs. However I do believe that both should be taught with an emphasis on abstinance. Afterall, abstinance works every time it's tried. Can't say that for a condom. |
|
I got pregnant at 16. I raised a girl all alone with difficulties. She did receive an abstinence only education. Today she is happily married and now planning on children. More importantly, she has no STDs like so many her age. Abstinence education is worthwhile and it does work for those who listen. I've been there.

Today's headlines: 13 State high schools have earned D's and F's since 1999.
And you want these idiots to partner with the ACLU to discuss the morals of when and how to have sex? What good would it do to provide contraceptives to school children who can't read the directions on the package? |

Ideally parents would teach their kids at home about sex but I don't think that's happening. Sex is a taboo for too many people. |

It's time to get the Bible-thumpers out of this debate and let science prevail. Objective, peer-reviewed studies consistently show that "abstinence education" is ineffective at preventing pregnancies and STD's when compared with a well rounded program that includes info on birth control and barrier protection. Enough said.

I think the problem was always there but to a very, very small degree. But when the ACLU came in, along with the morale degredation of our social standards (i.e. drugs, work ethics, demeaning of religion) then things have spiraled out of control. The mear fact that telling your kids about "the birds and the bees" was an awkward event sent them a message. Now you're handing out birth control to 12 year old girls in school, getting court orders that say a 15 year old doesn't have to tell her parents she's getting an abortion, making condoms free to junior high students, and on and on. Where does it end? Where does sanity step in and says "whoa, enough's enough". Or does it? Or does this madness and stupidity continue until we end up like ancient Rome when it collapesed because the people and their government just totally gave up trying to remain civilized? Whether they have good intentions or not, the ACLU has done more damage to our country than any army could ever do. And the reason is that they've lost all vision of what's good for society and they've focused on what an individual wants. To them that's all that matters. |

Yes, the key factor here is "abstinence ONLY" which is the wrong way. We teach comprehensive at my UU church which includes abstinence, and oddly enough we don't have teen pregnancies or STD's. When you educate someone you don't give them half the information, you give them all the information. Those who support Abstinence ONLY are just plain ignorant. I learned comprehensive sex ed in my teens through Planned Parenthood. I never had an unwanted pregnancy, an abortion or an STD. I now have two adult sons who are not parents, and don't have STD's. Remember to think when educating! |

Guilty as charged! I'm one of those Bible-Thumpers you mentioned and have no apologies for it! I assume that you are one of those folks that wouldn't mind if your 12 or 13 year old daughter was having sex with her boy friend in her bedroom or his just so long as he used a condom, right? You are one of those "Liberated" chosen few who feel that children having sex is normal. That they are going to do it anyway so why not just make it "Safe". Well, use your own scientific information and you'll will find that there really is no such thing as "Safe Sex"! Condoms are not 100% assurance that a young girl won't become pregnant and the microscopic pores in the rubber of a condom will not prevent the users from transfering the AIDS virus seeing the virus is smaller in diameter than the pores! So what you are actually promoting along with the ACLU is far more potentionally damaging to our children than abstinence has ever been! And just for the record, it doesn't take a "Bible-Thumper" to figure this stuff out, it just helps to remove one's head from the proverbial sand. It is the same as saying "No to drugs" but passing out clean hypos and bong pipes in the school clinic! "Well, they are going to do it anyway" Duh??? |

Unfortunately, the imposition of your beliefs have led to more deaths as well as pregnancies. It's well past time to face reality and educate our children. |
|
More and more teachers are already teaching sex with students before, during and after school!! Are they using protection? Police never say!!
|
|
|
Abstinence makes you crazy!

|
Can't you all just live together? Why not teach both you nim rods. Anything to prevent more children from having children and breeding little thugs to commit crime as soon as they can walk.
|
|
|
Why are both not being taught together. If you raise your children with proper morales and social values. You have less to worry about.
Once you instill this in your kids you have to trust them to make the right decisions but If they decide to make the decision to go ahead. At least they are well informed and will be safe. I know my parents did this and I waited till I was almost 18 and that was by choice. She was 19 and I was her first also. Her parents did the same thing and here we are many many many many many many years later still together. But in the end this is the reality. They are their own person and will do what they want. You just have to hope the you did the right thing in raising them. |

Birth Control
The episode as recorded in Genesis: “At that time Juda went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Odollamite, named Hiras. And he saw there the daughter of a man of Chanaan, called Sue: and taking her to wife, he went in unto her and she conceived, and bore a son, and called his name Her. And conceiving again, she bore a son, and called him Onan. She bore also a third: whom she called Sela. After whose birth, she ceased to bear any more. And Juda took a wife for Her his firstborn, whose name was Thamar. And Her, the firstborn of Juda, was wicked in the sight of the Lord: and was slain by him. Juda therefore said to Onan his son: Go in to thy brother's wife and marry her, that thou mayst raise seed to thy brother. He, knowing that the children should not be his, when he went in to his brother's wife, spilled his seed upon the ground, lest children should be born in his brother's name. And therefore the Lord slew him, because he did a detestable thing.”-Genesis 38:1-10. It is a common misconception among non-Catholics (and even among some Catholics) that the prohibition against artificial birth control is a man-made Church REGULATION. The fact, however, is that artificial birth control violates what is called in philosophy the "Natural Law," that is, the law which God built into our human nature when He created us. |

Man with your look at it and attitude. If you got kids they will get pregnant. They will be like the preacher's daughter more well used than a doorknob |

Orlando Homegrown, Abstinence Only MIGHT have a chance of success IF the parents have taken the time and expended the effort to instill those values in their children. A great many parents don't do that and since schools can barely teach a kid to read in 12 years expecting them to instill high moral values in kids whose own parents haven't bothered is ludicrous. Are you really so afraid that your children will cast aside all of your teachings and the examples you have set for them if some teacher explains how to use a condom to your kid Orlando Homegrown? Is your faith in your child really that weak Orlando Homegrown? Should we also not tell your kid about jail since you have already told him not to steal? |
Yeah, it sure seems that way doesn't it? About once a week you here about it happening somwhere. Imagine the cases we don't here about. "Hey Miss Roberts. My listening comprehension is the pits. Do you think I could get a phsyical demonstration after school?" |

I suppose that could be one reason - it might also be that they want all these babies to help refill their coffers. Much the same reason they support all the illegal aliens... |
