I notice the article carefully left out whether or not the officeer was wearing a seat belt. Why is that? Was the officer NOT wearing one?

Statistics show that more police officers die in traffic crashes without wearing their seat belts than from bullets fired from criminal's guns. Since NHTSA is pushing a "click it or ticket" campaign and seat belt usage is the law of most if not all states, a police officer who does not wear a seat belt violates the public trust along with the state law. Additionally, the lack of seat belt usage by police places their insurance carriers in a positon to pay out larger claims.
