I would sure love to know what conventions we have lost because we did not have an adequate facility. Then I might be convinced we need this!

I agree. Release documentation that will show the number of requests and how much revenue would have been made with them and a current business model. I can only bet that the overall costs of this convention center will override any profit for the taxpayers.

I just don't see many companies feeling the burn to come to Terre Haute, Indiana as a destination for their conventions. This will become another Center City project that will become a drain on the county general fund.

The City Council passed a resolution in support of the idea of a downtown convention center. Their action means nothing more than if my family decided over dinner that building a convention center is a good idea.

Under state law, the County Council must vote on this for an actual Food and Beverage Tax to be imposed. Whether you support it or not, contact your Vigo County Councilman before they vote on it. That will be the vote that matters.

I completely agree with you. On the other hand you can tell that the county council members have their minds made up on this endeavor regardless of what the taxpayers feel about it. If and I mean a big IF, the market was here to support a convention center then by all means build it. A few pennies on a restaurant meal won't break the bank, but I just don't see it in Terre Haute.

Lets be honest, if the market for conventions was that great in Terre Haute, Indiana, then some real estate developer would have already built a Hotel/Convention Center in this town and been raking in the dough. Hasn't happened...

Mayor Duke insisted on a feasibility from his financial advisers. They were positive and the project is moving forward.

...and it's that mentality that leads to the consumer tax complacency and the progressive atrophy of our country. Thanks for the contributions, loser.

In the Friday Tribune Star article about this, Councilman Nasser was quoted as saying there are 3400 people employed in the tourism industry here in Vigo County. How can that be? Is he including everyone who works at a gas station or restaurant?

So....paying an extra .20 on a $20.00 order at taco bell is going to lead to an increase in homelessness and crime?

By the time we’re taxed for the new Schools, and the new mega Jail, it all adds up as there is not much of a better paying manufacturing jobs, low paying restaurant, bar, hotel, pay,

Just something to think about.

You don't need a goddamn fucking Convention Center nothing comes here and nothing ever wanted to come here justify building it. We got a 10,000 seat arena we can't even get big time concerts to come here or any other major event to come here. I don't include Scheid diesel as an event. That's just a bunch of white trash congregating on the weekend. Bloomington Fort Wayne Evansville are all laughing at Terre Haute. It will be another waste of building like that Children's Museum.
