Supervisors push for revising opt-out program for smart meters

The Board of Supervisors voted to send the California Public Utilities Commission a letter urging the agency to let Ventura County residents reject "smart meters" without penalizing them.

I live in Thousand Oaks. With regards to us not being pentalized for not wanting to perticipate in the program. If you want to opt-out you need to pay approx $85 this is suppose to be a 1 time fee. However, we would need to pay an additional $10 per month on top of our normal bill. So we are being penalized ! This is total extortion!

I'm hearing reports of others' electrical bills going up significantly after having a smart meter installed. Apparently this is a lose-lose situation.
