I would have been more surprised if the helicopter had not taken off "low," that it, on the ground.

Overall I think forest fires should burn themselves out.

No matter how many country homes are burned up.

It's normal, it's natural, it's God's plan.

The aircraft was overloaded for the conditions. An S-61 at 6000 ft at 90+ degrees, no wind, full tank of gas, 13 people on board does not have the power to get over obstacles like trees. The crew was probably tired too. Terrible tragedy. Dangerous business. Terribly unforgiving.
