see they get a 'task force' to bust you but in reality this is your local corrupt people taking over a drug route they're jealous of. It's all they talk about, those cops are obsessed with being the biggest gangsters and letting newcomers know they don't want to run across anyone else with weed. Who did Mr. Ledford piss off for that high bail?
Probably his hunting rifles. Wth.

So.... crime is down 30% in Towns County and there are NO drugs in Towns County and all deputies qualified at the range with no problems and were not threatened with their jobs..., drug dealers have finally gotten te MEMO that doing Drug business in Towns County will not be tolerated and "Bear Osborn" doesn't have a leg to stand on...?
A Sheriff with "intelectual wordings", a criminal justice degree with a "gift to gab" is what we have. One that promotes himself and lives in a child hood fantacy of being featured on "Miami Vice" but hides behind the badge for courage.... Had to be hell geting picked on as a child.

What we have is a High School drop out who has hired a former marketing representative as his Chief Deputy. He keeps turning out these great letters from the desk articles and front page drug warning news stories that make the Sheriff sound like he is on top the situation. You can paint lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig.
Probably working with a 115 IQ, suffers from insecurity issues, refuses to acknowledge his past drug use, lack of education and military issues. He has been molded into a good politician by his handlers. Their job security is dependant upon making him appear as more than he is.
He will be Sheriff in Towns County for as long as he doesn't do something really stupid like his predecessors. Get used to it. The bar for Elected officials in Towns County is not high.

I'm so glad the bar is so much higher over the rest of the country. Just look at all the fine, upstanding, elected officials we have from all counties, states, and finally this great country! If only Towns County could be as lucky.

It would be nice if someday the SO would nail a distributor rather than the usual penny-ante dealers and users. Of course that could get real rough, which I guess is the reason they won't do it.
On a far less risky note, I also wish they'd take the K-9 dog for walks around the storage units we have around here someday. That isn't going to happen either.
There's a lot of money in drugs and some of it gets spread around.

It's a shame ya'll can't come up with anything new to flap your gums about in your feeble attempt of trashing. This was all unsuccessfully brought up last election.

In an attempt to avoid a question that I submitted to my local newspaper, Sheriff Chris Clinton of Towns County made harsh accusations directed toward me that have nothing to do with the issue at hand. The question was never published in the article to corrospond with the response given by the Sheriff, leaving the consumers of the Towns County Herald with new questions such as; "How could an attorney be used to intimidate law enforcement?" And more importantly, leaving the question originally asked unanswered and unheard.
The Question submitted.
"My question is for the sheriff of Towns County, Chris Clinton. If a person is found innocent of his or her criminal charges, any seized property is still subject to forfeiture pursuant O.C.G.A. 16-13-49. Most of the time this happens before a person is ever tried for the accusations against them. Legal representation is not provided for those who can't afford to hire an attorney making a forfeiture case difficult to win. My question is not about the legality of this issue, but rather the personal opinion of our sheriff in regards to this issue since the option to pursue such a case is at his discretion. How does our sheriff feel about having the rights to a persons personal property before they are even found guilty of a crime, or after they are found innocent in a court of
law?"- Chris Ledford
His Response from the Towns County Herald.(Sept. 12 2012)
"Recently it has come to my attention that brazen criminals are now attempting to intimidate witnesses and law enforcement through attorneys, social media, the press and other means. For these individuals, I want to be very clear: As long as I'm allowed to serve as Sheriff, I will agressively investigate and arrest ALL drug dealers."
"By seizing their unlawfully obtained assets, which they did not work for, the incentive to commit the crime is taken away. That is in my opinion, the reason the State of Georgia has decided that law enforcement should seize those assets -assets purchased with the proceeds of poisoning our children and our communities."- Chris Clinton
I think this is a good question for every Sheriff of every County in the State of Georgia because it shows the moral character of the Sheriff that the people elect in their county to serve and protect them. I think most people would agree that if a person is found innocent of the accusations against them, their property should be returned!

So...you really, really want your case addressed in a public forum?
Ok....so first...you are inocent, right? That was the point of your question...
Second...have you contacted the GBI Region 8 Office in Cleveland? The ADTF makes almost all of the seizure cases...that is part of their deal...so why don't you ask them...
Lastly, maybe you should address the judges who actual sign the papers taking away drug dealer's property...that and contact your congress person, or maybe make a trip to the Capital and express your concerns to the representatives who make these laws...now, usually, they listen only to those who can vote....
PS...I think the sheriff addressed your concern-it appears he feels that people who make illegal, illgotten gain off of the poisons provided to our children and citizens are not going to get any sympathy from him. Hmmmm....kinda goes against what the opposition is sayin, don't it...
And, uh, no...this ain't CC, or any kin

Chris Ledford could not have written this statement. He did not stay in school long enough or worked hard enough in school to be able to write in this manner.

Danger! You beat me to my comment!:)

I suggest you consider working to change the law. It seems foolish to leave such an issue up to the discretion of the law enforcement official. That is assuming of course, that you have correctly explained the statute. Of course that wouldn't help you get in your "gotcha" question that is obviously politically motivated.

That was hitting below the belt! With juice you pay a few bucks for growing dope in your back yard. No juice and one joint and you lose everything. Rip off the taxpayers for a few hundred thou, nothing is said or done. Forget to renew your tag and your ass is grass. Clinton knows better than buck the system. Put the other guy in office and he'll do the same. So what's the difference?

@educator & Educator2, I assume your both the same person. I wouldnt think you are CC/kin even tho you have the same kind of "lets direct the attention off the subject" kind of technique.. Id more so say that your just mad because your gf left you or somthing. anyways..
If you were educated enough to know how well I write, you would be able to read better. The question has nothing to do with seizing a "drug dealers" property, I think that point is clear since I state in the question twice that its about an innocent person and twice that it happens before one is found guilty. Therefor, The question has NOT been addressed. just avoided by directing attention to an "Im against Drug Dealers" attitude. Also it take note it states that its about the opinion, which i meant MORALITY of the Sheriff on the issue, not the legality.
There is a criminal statute most people think about that allows the property to be seized, held as evidence and not returned if a person is found guilty. So why take a person to civil court if they know they get the property anyways?
Yes DTF does seizure's of property, But Towns County does as well. Check the papers, its usually under "legal ads".. We all know the DTF has no soul. But they arent the one's we vote for locally to run our sheriff's office.
Yes this is an issue that needs to be brought to the attention of our representatives.
The statute is correct,(OCGA 16-13-49)
And by the way, I can vote.

"If you were educated enough to know how well I write, you would be able to read better".

OK, I'm noticing how well you write...:)
"drug dealers" (try an "'")
"...been addressed. just avoided..."
"Also it take note it states"
I think that is enough...remember...you wanted me to notice...
So, you think that instead of going to the Sheriff's Office and just asking the sheriff, your best bet was to first send your question to the paper, as you say, and then bring it here...
Well, maybe you should have just asked him in person...:)
I will give you some credit....you are at least a little civil...so you get points for that....
How 'bout this...you go to the courthouse and see the sheriff...he might just show you he's willing to listen....

A.D.T.F. is an agency that 4 different county Sheriffs' pay into, provide an officer/agent and pay the salery of that agent. Towns County's Sheriff's Office is Agent Donaldson. He receives his pay from the Towns County Sheriff's office and he/they are able to "file seizure" paper work on drug related property. However, IF the A.D.T.F. is awarded/granted "seizure" of a specific item(s), the sheriff's offices get a small portion of the awarded item(s)and/or currency but if the Sheriff office(s) file and are awarded the item(s)/currency, they get to keep ALL (for County/sell @ public outcry to the highest bidder). With that said, all of this is done through the civil courts and has been/can be sold back to the orginal offender at a "fair market value".
However, most agencies have researched the pros & cons of being connected to a multi-agency task force and chose the benefits of having their own officers work drugs locally as opposed to being associated with a D.T.F. was more benificial to their communities and cost less, understading that the "seizures" assisted with the paying of the officer(s) salery/equipment.
A few sheriffs, elect to remain connected to a D.T.F., knowing that those agents will primarily be working the county with the most drug activity (where would you be fishing? Same place as i, where the fish are biting..). However, they realize they sometimes need to play the "political blame game" ("oh that wasn't us, that was the A.D.T.F., we just assisted them") and decide to remain.

none of this still has anything to do with what happens when a person is found innocent for their criminal charges....its still the same thing sheriff clinton addressed. It was designed to penalize "drug dealers" .. The question has nothing to do with drug dealers or any particular case.... "HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT HAVING THE RIGHTS TO A PERSONS PERSONAL PROPERTY BEFORE THEY ARE FOUND GUILTY OF A CRIME... OR AFTER THEY ARE FOUND INNOCENT IN A COURT OF LAW" ..
I know what DTF is, and am well aware that they are a seizing agency, where the money goes, why its taken.. TOWNS COUNTY IS A SEIZING AGENCY AS WELL ..

Chris Ledford, if I may ask, are you insinuating that you have already gone to court? And that you have already been found innocent of your charges?
