If you or I wanted to see if we could afford to build a new house, we get bids and estimates first before we spent a dime. Why are we spending ANY taxpayer money toward the JJC if Murtaugh says the decision to build it hasn't been made yet? See below:

"Tippecanoe County Council President Tom Murtaugh says the county council has not committed to building the Juvenile Justice facility yet because they are waiting to hear better cost estimates. "When the consultants come back with a proposed square footage and what that cost per square footage will be then we can make a determination of whether one, we can afford to build it, and two whether we can afford to operate it," said Murtaugh. Wednesday at noon the architectural company that has been hired to design the Juvenile Justice Center will hold a public meeting. That meeting will be held in the Tippecanoe County Office Building. Murtaugh says the group will be brainstorming on what the facility may look like".- from WLFI Channel 18 website article

So,Architect Michael McMillen says that their estimate for the JJC will be ready in 6 weeks. Well, if you didn't already know this, that coincidently is just before the June 1 effective date of a new law that says that for any local government building project above 7 million dollars, it has to be put to a vote by the residents in a referendum. Surely the commissioners and county council wouldn't (all of a sudden) be pushing to decide on the JJC so they could beat the June 1 date, would they?
