Never had any experience with her as a defendant, but I was able to sit in some of her courtroom hearings when she was a former Tippecanoe County judge from 1996 - 2002. She seemed to be very abrasive, and appeared very biased against criminal defendants, and always favored the prosecution. A judge needs to listen to both sides. Not everyone who appears as a defendant in a criminal case is trash.
It's pretty scary when you can be arrested for public intoxication (even if you're not intoxicated), intimidation (for criticizing the government), disorderly conduct (for criticizing the government), or resisting law enforcement (for refusing to answer questions). Most of the law enforcement agencies in Tippecanoe County try to pile on as many charges as possible when they arrest someone, and hope something will stick in court. Then the prosecutors try to get you to waive your rights and plead guilty to something or sign some sort of diversion agreement where you "admit" to the charge. They can't stand jury trials. If everyone arrested or cited for a traffic infraction would demand a jury trial, it would cost the county so much money and clog the system to the extent that the police would focus on real criminals who are making our lives miserable and less on harassing regular citizens.
If you're ever questioned by police, it's best to REMAIN SILENT and ask for an attorney. Nothing you say to the police will help your case. Never consent to any searches, and record everything on your cell phone video camera with the data being uploaded to the cloud in case the police confiscate your phone and attempt to destroy the evidence.
