"Branson was placed on administrative leave after his arrest in June and will remain on leave until the county approves his termination, Parker said."

LIE! He was originally on admin leave, but came back to work several months ago.

"We've got a lot of crime going on Tehama County and we only have so many people to do the work, and we'll try to get on it as soon as we can, Parker said."

HUH? You have a convicted thief still currently working (and actually WORKING IN THE JAIL WITH INMATES) and Parker can't seem to find the time to write a report that says "He was convicted of welfare fraud so we need to fire him."

"Branson told investigators he learned the technique from a fellow deputy in the department who, along with his girlfriend, explained how to use the welfare system to their advantage, according to the DA's report. It was not immediately clear whether a second investigation was opened based on Branson's testimony. Parker said he was not aware of a second investigation but would consider a review within the department once he reads the DA's report."

OUTRAGEOUS! All Parker had to do was walk across to the DA's office and make a few inquiries to find out. Or maybe he could have found out by doing an IA investigation and actually asking branson this question? Parker STILL doesn't seem to know what the hell is going on in his department. Totally out of touch. Good riddance. This only makes me feel better about the fact he was elected out of office.

HERE i HAVE A QUESTION. How can 1 individual be singled out for welfare fraud when 90 percent of those on welfare are defrauding the system? Parker has no reason to pursue the issue when he's a lame duck just like this states actor/govenor.

Seems to me he got a very light sentence of only 60 days in jail and a very small fine. Stealing from the system should have at least a year in jail and a fine of at least $3,000.

All I can say is that this defendant is lucky that I wasn't his judge.

this guy is a cop at least while he is on duty. he has let the people of this county down. his teacher should also be investigated. it's a slap in the face to the good cops that respect their jobs and the people they serve.

as far as parker goes, all that can be said is, bye bye.

Just want to clarify some things for all of you folks that are so interested in this situation! James Branson has been working full time in the jail since July. So he has NOT been on administrative leave this whole time. As a matter of fact he was at work on Saturday! Mr. Parker was in court room on Monday. He witnessed the sentence that James was given. If he wanted so badly to fire James earlier why didn't he? Can you say HYPOCRITE? Sounds like a good name for MR. Parker! It's so amazing how the media can twist words into something that is not the truth! It's funny how everyone can have an opinion except for the people involved. They are not allowed to give their side of the story. What about the deputies out there that are into drugs, violence, and falsifying information. Let's take a look at all of them. So fed up with the BS!

Thanks for clearing this up. It does seem people sure get away with a lot in RB. I don't think this would be the case in to many other towns.

Did anyone stop to think when this story first came out the DA was shooting for 5 years in prison and 2 Felony conviction ?? Seems funny to me that this was dropped all the way down to 1 misdemeanor and only 60 days in jail !
I am pretty sure if this was as HUGE as the news has made it out to be. The DA would have not settled !
These were NOT his kids and it is NOT up to him to support them living together or not !!!

Exactly!! Love your comment! When the truth about this story gets to be told people will see the situation as a petty attempt to make an "EXAMPLE" out of the wrong people! Why isn't the dead beat dad helping out? Haha that's a great question. As I see it, Mr. Branson has taken on a huge responsibility to help her raise her children, and together they have done a great job thus far. Maybe Tehama County should take a look at the father of the children! Is he perfect? Not so much.:} I wonder if he's even paying child support?

What is the big Deal? You have a guy and girl living together, she has kids, why should he be responsible for them? If anyone person is to be a fault it is her. Would things be different if this guy was not a law enforcement officer? I think so. If this guy looses his job over this then the system is messed up. If a person working at Wal-Mart was living with his girlfriend and she got aid would he loose his job?

One would hope so, but probably not the case...

HEY DAILY NEWS, WHY DID JAMES BRANSON MAKE THE PAPER AND NOBODY BOTHERED INFORMING THE COUNTY WHEN MICHAEL BROWN (HEAD OF RED BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENTS DUI TASK FORCE) WAS CONVICTED OF A DUI LAST YEAR? I GUESS WE ARE TO WORRIED ABOUT POKING AT PARKER HUH?
OR the officer who was caught at work Drunk several times and was sent to re-hab !! He never lost his job either ? hhhhhmmm makes me question the priorities of our DA ! He is more worried about a correctional officer that his girlfriend gets welfare for HER kids than he is a Red Bluff Police Officer who is driving on our streets DRUNK and putting us all in danger !????

One of Parker's Pee-ons told me the other day to leave poor Sheriff Parker alone. This is a perfect example of why I don't leave corrupt politicians alone. He shpould step down or step up...and finally do the right thing, especially in the Juvenile Hall child abuse case. More time on the job means more time to cover other things up and abuse his power with his ongoing selective enforcement of crime.

When anyone files for welfare the county has to know of everyone in the home who is working. That can also include the income of a teenager who has a job. That is why his income was included. If she was/is receiving child support, once she goes on welfare that child support goes directly to the county for reimbursment. Some women can actually receive more on welfare then from child support alone so they will do just that and not have to work.
Unless their residence had two separate living quarters, it is consider a single family dwelling, thus no landlord/tenate situation. Both are to blame.

The only thing is...If the Father of those children were supporting them, The mother would NOT have to look into welfare to begin with !!! And this whole issue would have been avoided !!
