So again, Tazewell had money but refuses to hire extra staff to help our kids. Was this a way for our great Dr. to say she cut staff at the administration level, but it really was a cover-up that cost more money for Tazewell? Many teachers have been cut and class sizes are bigger. Who pays for that decision? The children pay.

It doesn't matter who lost the job. The point is that those in administrative positions for the Tazewell County School Board are guilty of misappropriation of federal funds. Melissa's job was 100% federally funded. If they put Melissa back into the classroom and kept the $$$--that is a crime. That's the type of people who are looking out for the best interest of our children? Our teachers? WE NEED NEW SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AND A NEW SUPERINTENTDENT NOW!

But Melissa didn't really loose a job-they placed her at the middle school as a teacher. I just wonder how many others are just left in the unemployment line. Seems in Tazewell if you have money you always come out on top. What about the little guy just struggling to make ends meet who doesn't live in the "rich" subdivision or drive the expensive cars. Yes we do need to know where the money went but I think the jobs should be given to ones that need it worse.

i dont think she was given another position because of her status, she had almost 20yrs experience in the school system and as in most places of employment seniority is the deciding vote...she should not be layed off just because she has managed her money well and is a little better off than some... that is a childish way of looking at life......

I'm surprised Melissa Thompson is keeping a job with the TCPS system. Her kids have now all graduated from THS. All she ever did was make sure they got favorable treatment and were always first in line with whatever they wanted. She was at THS the Monday morning after the 2003 homecoming queen was announced demanding that the votes be recounted to ensure the person who was elected the homecoming queen did in fact win (her daughter was in the running and did not win).

Just Sayin is right. I would not want her teaching my children based on the behavior of her children. She needed to stay at home and teach her daughters to keep their legs together.

First off, it's my understanding not ONE SINGLE teacher in Tazewell County was laid off. Positions that teachers retired from were not all filled, but no one was laid off.

Secondly, I believe Melissa's new position comes with a pay decrease. I wouldn't be happy if I were given a pay decrease after 20 years of experience. It doesn't matter how much money she has - if she wants to work, she can work.

Some of you sound very jealous of her house in her "rich" subdivision and her nice cars.

Wow I did not say anything about teachers being laid off I just said others. I am not envious or jealous of wealth or status. My family has worked all their life for what we have. I am just tired of people who have always been on top and seem to know it. I have lived in Tazewell forever and I know that people who have money in Tazewell always tend to "hang" together. I am just upset beause someone out there might need a job to feed their children or keep their house. While there are people in Tazewell and elsewhere that could afford to give up a job and let the ones that need it have it. Of course then the "ones with money" might have to give up a vacation home or condo. Heaven forbid if they can't always take vacations with their family every holiday. And by the way I have heard even people who live in the "rich" subdivision that they live there because it's a status symbol in Tazewell. Sorry I have offend you but as the old saying goes the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Why not let someone who is at rock bottom have a chance to support their families for a change.

So what you are saying is someone who has worked for 20 years in the school system should just give up their job, their benefits and possibly even their retirement so someone else can have it? So, do you give your paycheck to someone who needs the money more than you do? Are you willing to quit your job so someone else can have it?

If I could afford to I would. But I also live very modestly. No she should not be forced to give up her job. I just stated the facts about the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Life goes on and I pray that you will try to help someone in need. God bless you and I am through with this conversation.

Mrs cordlesi lost her job @ cedar bluff her position was cut so now the area is not only losing a good teacher but an excellent dr. because of the good super that we have @ the school board office

It doesn't matter if you are rich or poor, here is what matters. The facts
Mrs. Thompson has worked for the school system for 18 years, her position is federaly funded which means the county does not have to pay for her position federal dollars does.

The school board told her that they had to make cuts because of funding, ie they didn't have the money to keep her job. How stupid do you have to be to know that federal funds are just that federal and not county funds? If you do not use federal funds they must be sent back. So after the mistake of cutting Mrs. Thompsons position they now have to give back the federal money that was suppose to fund this position. However they do not want to give the money back, or have spent it on something else so once again instead of giving Mrs. Thompson her position back, they stick someone else there. The board and the high on your horse Dr. can't admit to a mistake, say I am sorry and make things right. Not only did they move Mrs. Thompson but when her Supervisor stepped to the plate to defend her, they demoted the Supervisor. The great Dr and her board sent a very lound message to the system, speak against us and see what happens!
This is a matter of mismanaging money and right or wrong, not rich vs poor.

Could Mrs. Thompson have been demoted due to behavior and involvement in certain area's that she had no business? Such as student life and football scandals ?
